Silverblack, the alloy Javelin

1 Attachment(s)
After seeing what a customer of ours did to his RC10 after adding one of our RC10 cages I am seriously toying with the idea of a fully made(or mostly made) alloy Javelin, hence; The Silverblack... here comes the obsesive spending again

My plan is to use an already made Javelin aluminum rollcage I have that I was planning to use on my Green Monster. The problem is that I am more in favor of a really nice metallic green coat rather than to green anodize the cage. So in order not to coat one of the only two aluminum Javelin rollcages in existance that I've made I decided to use one of our standard stainless steel for the Green Monster and coat it metallic green and use the aluminum one for the alloy build.

The plan:
I am planning on using the aluminum rollcage(obviously) and polish it. I will also make unique factory stock style(not option house) aluminum side guards and buy or make the following; aluminum top deck, deck support, arms, new polished shocks(probabbly Integy), fabricated or CNC'd aluminum bumber, bumper brace, alloy wing, linkages, hubs, screws, wheels and spindles.
What I am still debating on is the fabrication of CNC transmission cases, chain cover, steering bellcrank and other parts alike, so that's why it will be named Siverblack since it will not be an entirely aluminum made Javelin.

I also have the following questions; Will the Laser ZX5 spindles work on the Optima hubs? Did Kyosho ever made shiny dogbones and shafts or are there any that will fit?

More pictures with the build later, this one for sure is going to be a slow one....

Looking forward to seeing this unfold.
I have a set of vintage alloy wishbones that may be perfect for your project

If you have access to a CNC lathe you could make some really cool parts, like maybe alloy rear hubs?

I love polished alloy, I did all the polishing myself on my other project below

No wonder you AKA name is HKS_TRD!!!! That 2JZ is sweet!!!!
Supra I guess? Soarer or some nasty build?
You just gave me candy to my sweet tooth, I am too an engine/turbo builder, I've made one or two ;)

Not as beautiful as yours, but very deadly, this is my street legal, 3000 pounder 1989 autocross Trans Am GTA. It has a turbocharged 5.7L/350ci V8 engine, intercooled, 6-speed, chopped front end chassis, one-piece fiberglass front end, lightweight custom hood with reverse scoops, reinforced chassis, rollbar, lightweight hatch with lexan window, Koni road race adjustable shocks, custom adjustable chromemolly torque arm, Holley Stealth ram injection with Standalone, and many other goodies to take me from point A to point B faster than a 1000cc bike :D.
Sadly right now it's been sitting in a garage for two years now... needs a new fuel pump, fuel hoses, clutch is busted, engine needs refreshing(last time I dynoed for a track event was almost 500rwhp...:(), tranny needs new bearings, etc, etc.... It just needs about $15K to get it going again...:o

Well again with RC, I wanted to ask; Will a Kyosho Cobalt motor fit into a Optima/Javelin chassis?

HKS_TRD 05-03-2014 08:05 AM

Wow that is one awesome machine you have there I am rather impressed! The car is an MA-70 Supra however you may cringe when I tell you the motor is a 7M albeit heavily modified. I have had good luck with the 7M and the last one made 540rwhp. The valve covers are CNC custom made and the intake was made by a guy in the US, the Turbo is a GTX42R billet comp wheel, this build has been going for five years, the turbo didn't even exist when I started lol
I have bought some parts from a guy in PR in the past.
I am planning on taking a photo of my modified Mid sitting on the valve covers when I get a chance.
Let me know if the alloy wishbones would be of interest to you

optiman 05-03-2014 11:30 AM

About the wishbones, yes, please send me a pic and price tag with shipping!! :)

Sorry, but a I am not a Supra guru, what is a MA-70?

HKS_TRD 05-03-2014 11:56 AM

I will get you some pics on the weekend
The arms will need polishing but that should be easy enough for you!

An MA-70 is what they call a MKIII in the US, mine is an 89 model it looks a bit like a Corvette or Trans-Am the photo below is one the guys took when it was in a magazine some years ago

That is one sinister looking Supra!!!!
A guy around here was locally famous for one he had just like yours, but in white color.
I've never raced him when I was an irresponsible drag street racer, but I was told he was fast... very fast.
The fastest thing I've raced was a preped 900cc Honda CBR. Acceleration and top end where almost equal, although I was slowly taking the lead on the top end. My GTA is not built for drag racing, but I did the occacional drag race pass.

Please send me the pics when you get the chance.
Thanks
Ed

These are the wishbones, photo of both sides, they will need a polish but will come up nice I am certain
If you are interested make an offer or I can think of a price, they are a bit more cool to have than the new Pargu ones because these are the real deal vintage hop up.
I scored some Andys wishbones for the project this may have been used on (SWB Trinity saddle pack chassis build with all vintage upgrades, very long term project) so I am happy to sell them now

JAJAJA so you were the one! I was mountain biking yesterday and tried to bid on them, but by the time I got the chance to bid it already had finished! Congrats!

Wow, Pargu's look like an exact copy of you originals. Please PM'd me a price and shipping quote for them.
Thanks

I have one question for you, will the rear Laser ZX5 hubs fit into Optima's stock arms? I also would like to know if the laser ZX5 front axle hubs will fit into the Optima's C hubs. I'm asking since you seem to have experimented with them in you MID project.

The Pargu Optima ones look like the mid arms but the Pargu Mid arms look different which I can't work out.
These arms I think are a little more rounded on the edges however.
The ZX5 stuff wont work with Mid arms, the Lazer arms are much longer, I never tried as I knew it was never going to work

I'm very interested to see the final result but I'm also curious about the making steps. :D

HKS_TRD 02-12-2014 08:22 AM

when you make the CNC parts could you be persuaded to make more than one of each?

A cnc copy of the ot-93 bumper would be sweet

:) Yes, I'll be posting pics soon of what I have. For now I'm really just getting what it can be get already done, like the Pargu stuff and some Answer and Cross brand aluminum parts.

Chris, I am pretty sure that when I start CNC'ng the parts I'll make a couple more.

Update:
Got these today, they are vintage Cross brand Optima hubs. I will no deanodize them and polish them.
I am also tinkering with the idea of nickel-chrome the rollcage and side guards, everything else will be polished aluminum.
Some other good news is that the front and rear gearbox, chain covers and some other parts are being made as I write this down. I asked a friend to do me the favor, if it was for me I would be still taking measurements...:(

So far...
I am begining to assemble the Javelin to see if anything needs to be done. I decided to leave the few stainless steel parts like the roof, motor guard, number plate, rear louver and roof with the stainless steel satin natural look and chrome coat everything else made of aluminum; rollcage, wing, chassis, front bumper, arms, radio plate, etc, etc...
The motor is a silver can stock motor, I think is very appropiate for the build and I am also planing on building the buggy without tires, leaving the un-covered wheels all chrome and shiny!!!

alcyon 12-08-2016 12:54 AM

Wow my personal favorite is the MkII supra, but I like the Mk3 too.
Nearly bought this car last year, but as job security was suspect, I passed.
