STIFF LIPO CHASSIS or STD CHASSIS ?

After reading people's thoughts about humped LiPOS in the SX it got me thinking, carl was saying after he modified the standard chassis matty found that the little bit of extra flex helped with the handling so would i be right in thinking that the stiff LiPO chassis would be better suited for indoors ? Or am i wide of the mark. :woot:

I was about to post the same thing, so will await the comments and thoughts :)

I'm tempted with it for a perfect fit for some Vampire Racing or Nosram LIPOs as I fancy some 40C LIPOS :)

Grant has used the stiff chassis for all of this year’s nationals.

Mike

What LIPOs has he been using?

Many of the newer Lipo's drop straight into the stiff lipo chassis. Some I can think off - Speed Passion, Nosram/LRP, Demon (fairly sure vampire is same),

I was looking at changing to Nosram 5300s and they from what I understand won't fit with the current LIPO chassis, so I thinking of the new chassis.

I do like Vampire Racing LIPOs and wish I hadn't sold my pack

we have both stiff and modified std lipo chassis, the stiff chassis is good and if your setup is rite its rite, but what we have found is the std lipo chassis is a lot more flexible and so more forgiving of a not so perfect set up,and is easier and fast to drive on a bumpy track, all we did was lay the lipo friendly stiff chassis over the top of std chassis and copy the holes across,

Interesting as I race on a bumpy track and chassis flex seems to be a good thing..

I suppose the question is how much does it highlight a bad set-up.. I returned to racing this year and am starting to understand things again. Cat SX I've been racing since about July, but not enough

bigred5765 24-09-2009 09:34 PM

it isnt loads but enough for matty to no which chassis i put on without telling him

Fair enough. I doubt I'd notice then

So may give it a shot. Do you need to the optional top deck too or can you run the standard top deck still?

Im running the option top deck more for the bullet connector hole. so i dont have to fight a 90º plug in and out..

on the standard chassis they fit in upside down, just be careful of the inside front hump positioning or it will catch the front pulley

Garry Spice 25-09-2009 08:14 AM

same with my lrp 5300`s pack.turn it upside down have the bumps at the top and the brace fits fine.oh,im using the standard s1 chassis.

lochness42 25-09-2009 08:41 AM

SMC cells that have similar case as Nosram/LRP are actually lower so they should work without catching pulley.

OK Cool.

I'll go through the list of things I maybe cull out a few things.

Ive ran both this year, including a combination of different top decks. The one Mike is talking about is the ultra stiff chassis, and i moved to that just before the Euros (based on the fact of how consistent Grants car looked). If you find a setup either are just as good, it gets down to personal preference then when you test them back to back.

I agree with Simon in that the chassis only make a small difference and that once you find a set-up that works for you, the only changes may be one step in oil and moving washers around to fine-tune it.

Since Phil made me the stiff LiPo chassis after the Petit RC race in January, its the one that Grant and I have stuck with all season on all tracks.

Kopite 25-09-2009 01:36 PM

If i've noticed anything from running the stiff chassis over the std one, it's an ever so slight taming of the front end aggression.

mikeyscott 25-09-2009 03:19 PM

Ordered and std chassis coming up for sale fairly soon :)

Also ordering a new LIPO shortly to have so nice 40c rating cells :)

How much would the standard chassis be worth 2nd hand, £40 unmarked?
