4wd confusion

its time for a new 4wd the bmax just isnt keeping up to the pace and development of the new cars ( bmax 2 is not progress) and yokomo are not the best for parts support and upgrades
so i want a new 4wd but am confused
it has to be saddles
have a good working slipperclutch
be shaft drive not belts
good product support and parts
and it has to be metric i hate imperial and dont want to change all tools and spares really

dont want a lazer fs2 - good car but not for me
tempted by the new v3 durango but dunno if i can handle owning "captinlip edition durango "
maybe the ansmann team edition but not sure on the gearboxs unless they been revised
and the wild card would be the b44.1 but this means a entire new set up including screws and bearings

i have seen prototype shots of the hotbodies d4x (and d2x ) prototypes and i am liking the look and sound of them . (gear diffs carbon chassis):wub
but this looks a long way off if ever
maybe losi might do a 44 ( hope its better than the 22)
does any one no of any new 4wds in the pipeline other than this

the bmax is trusy and reliable but getting dated and its time for a change
so what do you lot think . get a new car out of the current line up or wait it out for the next big thing

Cat SX3?
502X (or 511X)?
Predator?

Anyway - I've upgraded to Bmax 2 spec - I've ordered the new motor mount! I might order the new rear centre driveshaft as I've lost that pin before, don't see the point for the others as never lost pins so why do I need a retaining clip? And I'll switch chassis if I ever break the current one, otherwise no need.

I'm also trying to see if I can get someone to machine me some spurs in a different material. The Bmax slipper works, its just the heat melts the plastic used and makes the spur move off centre stripping it. A more heat resistant material (I'm thinking Tufnol) would solve that problem because it wouldn't melt at all.

sx3 gets the vote from me and mat as well

johnnygibbon 05-07-2011 09:29 PM

is the sx3 belt drive . if so no . if not maaaaaayyyyyyybe
no to a predator they do look good but no definatly no
maybe tha tamiya but how good is the product support

cmon there must be some new cars up and coming or some serious updates for the existing ones

bigred5765 05-07-2011 09:34 PM

the only tamiya worth getting is belt drive and yes sx3 is belt

Naushad 05-07-2011 10:11 PM

They do, and knowing the way they deal with things its set to be an amazing buggy! :) the rango is currently kicking arse all over and you just can't beat the u.k build quality and parts support of the Schuey stuff. Its a tough question these days as 4wd seems to be awaiting some much needed new arrivals. Hanging back for x7 could mean waiting till late this year or early 2012 from what I see,the rango is about to receive a spec upgrade and face lift but this is purely speculative at present I believe (not sure if they have released details yet)

Soooo, get a cat if you want A1 british built tunability, or get a rango if you want Tresrey ali and carbon option parts and massive resources from loads of drivers for setups etc, plus I see and hear it drive very well with some careful refinements.

There really is so much personal preference to be taken into account..for instance I love belt driven cars...but prefer sticks to saddles

johnnygibbon 06-07-2011 12:03 AM

hmmmmmm i like it might have to hold out for more news
x7
d4x
styleonne i agree 4wd is waiting for something
and the durangos tempting but i no its gonna be££££££££££££££ by the time i finish spending

x7 looks well differant but i do like it

still a pity yokomo dont seem interested in rc development at the min

fastinfastout 06-07-2011 03:11 AM

development, are you serious?

there is nothing wrong with the current yokomo 4wd. Just cos other manufacturers like to churn out a new car every year, doesnt mean the yok is at all outdated.

in the right hands, this car is a weapon.

foampervert 06-07-2011 03:25 AM

Huh???

You're turning down the very best of 4wd without a plausible reason other then "not for me"? Kyosho's fs2, ae b44.1, yokomo's bmax2, tamiya trf502, cat sx3, pred x11 are amongst the pinnacle of 4wd tech, drivability and durability.

Durango isn't known for durability(although it's jammed with good ideas), and annsman x4 is an OEM team C... (which is really not too bad, but avoid the nickel/chrome plated stuff... They suck super big time.)

The last time some company came up with a new-fangled, bells and whistles 4wd... it flopped so hard, they had to release it twice(in 20 years)... Just so they can make a profit from the design. Can you say AVANTE?:lol::lol:

May I ask why the ZX5-FS2 "isn't for you"?

It's super easy to build, easy to set up, hardly needs any maintenance (so long as you change to carbide / ceramic diff balls) and handles like a dream come true!
Parts support is good, yes parts aren't Ansmann prices but then you hardly even need to replace anything so does it really matter?
Setup help and support is available from loads of people on here (with many different driving styles so will find somebodywho likes the car to feel like you do).

I'm not having a dig at all mate, just wondering why you have decided that the FS2 isn't for you as everybody (bar 1, who to be fair didn't take much of the offer advice /experience on board) I know who has tried one has fallen in love with it on first drive.

Tamiya Product support is crap so dont bother with Tamiya. Lee would be running it if it was good, and he isnt at the Nats or Euros so isnt up to standards. I sold mine due to crap support and none of the shops being able to get enough surplus from Tamiya which may I add are all almost all from abroad.

X factory 4wd is going to be a belt so as you dont like then its out already, but the support and info will be really good when its released and also the car will be rather good out the box without mods.

I am by no means a fan of shaft drive but the Durango is the way to go but would advise on getting alloy steering parts as they are a bit brittle but other than that appears to be a very well designed kit that can take some abuse and is much easier to maintain than other makes.

SHY 06-07-2011 08:21 AM

AE B44.1 - cheap, easy to get parts, fast everywhere, bulletproof... a winner out of the box! Best on med or high grip.

If bumpy + low grip > Atomized B44 (must get a used one then)

Just my 5 cents, have tried a lot of cars

johnnygibbon 06-07-2011 08:21 AM

Aa for the laZer they are a very popular car in our area . I just don't think it would suit my rough and ready driving . I was considering one
But I thunk for the price I would still go Durango v3
As for the x7 maybe I could be won over by belt drive if the car is sound
Xfactory have a good reputation and I can't see them releasing another avante style failure
I like strength and Durabillity in my car . Cos I'm rough. That's why the Bmax has been and still is a good car , but I do think its trailing behind other manufacturors in a few areas

Thanks for the advice any way people it's give something to think about
Got three cars in mind now
Durango v3
B44 .1 ( tool and spares needed but a tough good car)
And the x7 has awoke some interest to
Any ideas ona release date yet

simon 06-07-2011 08:35 AM

What about the new FTX vantage!

Skye 06-07-2011 09:04 AM

If it is only the tools that is stopping you from getting the B44.1 then I would go for that one mate. I have Kyosho 2wd so had to buy all new tools for the B44.1 but in the grand scheme of things it didnt cost that much......

jameswilkinson7 06-07-2011 09:10 AM

I would
1 wait for the X7.
2 or get the Cat sx3.
3 Maybe the Durango. But I'm not a fan of shaft driven cars.

True, all you need is 4x allen drivers and 4x socket drivers.

Buy an extra set of towers, glue together with the first set = 2x thickness " will never ever break.

Buy a set of extra front wishbones. This is the only thing I break now and then. Left/right is equal which is a bit plus.

Lots of shells will fit the B44, myself I use the HB D4 shell.

X7 - I would guess no release before 2013...
