I seem to remember people posting on Tamiyaclub.com that boring ordinary mineral brake fluid will do it. Don't quote me on that though, you may want to check out the forums on that site for more info, loads of people have had the same problems restoring old ABS plastic shells. Before you do it though, have you considered getting a new one? I appreciate money doesn't grow on trees but it may be a better solution especially if your old shell has some damage.
