I ran a Futaba S3003 for a bit and never had any problems with that stripping gears but probably wouldn't want to recommend it to anyone. Had an Orion VDS1407 in my SC10, absolutely no problems with that and it was cheap(ish) too. Am currently running a low profile Futaba S9551 in my X6 and it's fine even though a lot of doomsayers kept opining it wouldn't be man enough for the job.
I hate throwing money at servo's TBH but I reckon that's 'cos so far I've been a lucky sod and never had one pack up on me. I shall now take some spares with me on Saturday as mine is bound to die now I've said that
