Yep get as many coats of LM on as you can, i usually brush on 4 coats to be sure & let them dry naturally...
If you have forgotten to wash the shell out, no problem, if you wipe the surface you're gonna paint with lighter fluid on a bit of kitchen roll that would remove most the residue before you paint
