The SVR is rear motor also though!
Whan you're just starting (or starting back up) a B4 of some description is the obvious choice, the 4.2's are expensive but otherwise they're good value especially second hand older spec cars. Add to that really good parts availability in general and it makes the most sense.
Once you're confident with 2wd and want to go faster with a B4 you then have a choice of mid-motor conversions, X6, Centro, Vega - though obviously the upcoming X6 Cubed is what you want
