Default let down..

today, i went from huddersfield to my lhs just to buy a new servo for my rc18mt. the standard one is fubarred and isnt much use. so i was guranteed at morely that the hitec micro servo £20 in morely. http://www.active-robots.co.uk/hitec...rvo-p-324.html would replace and fit the crappy team associated one that comes with the truck. but on getting ready to fit it, i realise that there is quite a major size difference and i personally feel it is not going to fit in the slightest. i am going to take it and my truck to someone who has more knowledge than me to see if they can fit it. but personally i feel i have been lied to by 2 of the staff at my lhs and this has put my faith in them quite very low. does anybody know a servo that will replace the standard one in the truck as this one is too wide to basically fit inside the servo bracket?

alex

Great servo ...... I have one in my RC18 Exotek.

There is absolutely no chance of it fiting the standard RC18 servo mounts though.

Apply a little logic and a slice of creativity and then a sprinkly of engineering and it'll be in! Before you fit it make sure you can get a servo horn to fit it for hte standard RC18 steering set-up!!!

I'm running Xray servo saver on mine but then again it's a completly differnet steering system!!!

suggest you retract your statement before the shop looses peoples interest. LHS are hard enough to come by as it is. Abit unfair considering you hadn't checked on here how to fit it before jumping to the conclusion of being ripped off.

i can see you point, but no-one said that it wouldnt directly fit in. so they have misled me, and it turns out im gonna need more bits and peices to make it fit than its worth. of which none were told to me by the lads at my lhs. i jus feel i was let down

It's still not a good enough reason to slate them on a public forum, where alot of people come each day. Ideally you're best to contact the shop and explain what you think. For all you know they may offer to help you get it in the car correctly.
Up to you tho dude, look after your LHS.. they seem to know what theyre doing if they are reccomending a servo that even a reliable source like Roger would reccomend, and buy!

Paul, as much as i agree that the wording could of been better, the matter is that Alex asked for a replacement servo, which in legal terms is basicaly take the old one out, fit that one in it's place, where as they have sold him a servo that needs a lot of modification to fit in the chassis i.e. not a direct replacement. If he was wishing to, the shop would have to refund him his money for the servo.

But if Alex spoke to morley models and explained the situation to them to, more than likely they would be willing to sort out this mix-up..... if they didn't, then they are then worthy of abuse.

I wish I could help explain how to fit it but I've never owned a standard Rc18 so am not sure exactly how much space there is (or isn't).

My guess is that if you take the servo back to them, along with the car they will sort you out. The HS81 / 82 are very popular at my local micro club and with good reason so it is understandable that the shop may have sold many to micro drivers and be under the impression that they fit ..... without realising the RC18 in TINY!!!

IIRC the servo your looking for is the HS56MG, I think that would be a near direct replacment. I also know of 2 people with the HS65MG in the standard plastic chassis.

I have to say that given the chance I'm sure the model shop will help you out, not the best cause of action to jump straight in with a nasty comment.

I've been involved with this sport / hobby since 1987 and in that time I have dealt with a lot of shops (been sponsored by 3 different shops) and I have to say that in all that time I have only ever met one shop keeper that wasn't genuinely interested in helping their customers enjoy this hobby.
I have to say though that with the amount of non UK sourcing that is going on at the moment increases it will only be the very best (luckiest???) LHS that survive as supporters of racing .... please don't publicly flog those that are surviving!

Ummm, to save the servo? So basically if the wheels get hit hard then the saver spring will compress before straining the servo motor.

A long time ago I fitted an 81MG in a standard RC18 and if I remember you have to basically not use any of the servo mounts and just stick it down with good double sided tape (get the stuff from Halfords that they have specifically for sticking number plates to cars as it's heavy duty and all weather). You might also have to trim the servo tabs so it fits in the chassis tub.

The standard servo saver can be made to fit by VERY CAREFULLY drilling the horn hole a tiny bit bigger and forcing it onto the 81MG horn so it makes new splines. It sounds a bodge but it works really well as long as you drill CAREFULLY!

If you happen to mess up the drilling then the best servo saver on the planet for micro servo's are available here: http://www.teamxray.co.uk/productdet...382500-m18.php and it's a direct fit to the 81MG.

HS56 size wise fits straight in but you need the Hi-Tec adaptor for the servo saver,
you also have to trim a very small amount off the servo body to get full lock as the steeering link catches the servo.
Adaptor comes with the FT version but not sure it does with the RTR

The centre line of the HS81 doesnt line up with the center line of the pivot on the otherside of the std RC18 steering assembly.

If you want a decent servo that fits try the HS56..but be warned that the Karbonite one has a nasty habit of shearing the entire splined shaft that protrudes out of the servo case off.....
