You are right so far but:

Remove the top pin TO4032

Now put on the slipper plate TO4020

Now put the top pin back in TO4032

Now put on the centre bearing insert assembly TO2177 & TO2099

Add a tiny amount of thread lock to the two TO2082 screws to hold everything together.

So that pin is supposed to be touching the back of the spur gear? the slipper nut is backed off all the way.

the whole assembly is standing on the outdrive in the pic.

I may try doing it upside down with the outdrive and spur gear slot facing up, just to see how it assembles.
