rc18b meets the dreaded sooty
been meaning to sort out a few pictures of this one for a couple of months. i originally bought a ready to run rc18b a while ago and very quickly got fed up of the floppy chassis and crappy steering with so much slop that control on rough ground was really not good. anyway, motor was not brilliant either and i had a small 250 watt outrunner hanging around so decided to mess with the car and do something different. calculated gearing from the kv rating of the motor at 7.2 volts, came out at about 24mph on diff ratio alone so i scrapped the gears and went direct!! performance is very smooth with wads of torque and good acceleration, not incredible top speed on 7.2 volt. did try strapping on a 3 cell lipo, not reccomended due to frighteningly uncontrollabe top speed, good laugh though!! have tried touring car wheels since then and that increases the top speed considerably, but does run time no favours. have not run at club yet, still need a proper speedo, the plane one in it has a substantial throttle on and off delay which makes control very difficult. handling however is much improved over standard.
