Lipo's dont explode the polymer inside the cell burns very quickly and very powerfully. Dead shorting a battery pack will result in ALOT of current being drawn very very quickly. Far to much for the pack to handle resulting in the pack catching fire.

If you want to make a bang get a big capacitor and charge it then dead short it. If its a good one should make a nice bang.

Back in the days of Ni-cd batteries (circa late 80's) I set off a few battery packs accidentally like.
I didn't have a fast charger with timer on it (believe it or not) and kept forgetting to come back and take the battery off charge.
(it was a set of cables with clamps on one end and a tamiya plug on the other).

Cheap and nasty and those batteries went off, sprayed crap everywhere.

I was young ok.

The only certainty Ant is that if there is, it will be you that is standing there with a slightly confused look on your face, singed eyebrows wondering where the feck your pit table went.

PS. the vid in this thread reminds me of brainiac, only without the fit birds in lycra.

haven't seen any catch fire, but Mike Williams had one puff up like a cake in an oven on his pit table. Was funny seeing the panic in his tent as they quickly lobbed it in a bush!
