FRsky, Orangrc or ? FF3 3VC module and rx?

I'm after a cheap 2.4 module and multiple tx's for my vintage cars, but I'm not sure which system to go for?

What are they like?
Which has the cheapest/smallest receivers?

IMO ya cannot go wrong with Orange. Receivers are small, not the smallest but near, and dirt cheap.

I'm running them with my spektrum system, and no problems at all.

Frsky are good too, but those air style rx don't look so tough.

Had hit and miss with the FrSky stuff. OrangeRX receivers are DSM2 and am currently trying to find out if the Futaba Module works with the 3VC!

My Frsky stuff has never missed a beat. I've converted an Esprit 3, receivers are £13, and with a slight pin bending modification can be 30mm x 19mm area, whic i find fits well in all cars.

I've run frsky for a year or two now. The old receivers used to be smaller by a few mm's.
The only problem I had was when the aerial snapped off a receiver. Now I just tuck the aerial back in the case. With the receivers only being £13 it's not a big deal.

Well i have been running orange on all my aircraft and never had any problems at all with them. Not used there car ones yet though but i have only just got back into the cars so there is my excuse lol.

The FRsky RX's look a bit vulnerable

The Orangerc rx looks a tougher thing, but then I never had a lot of luck with proper Spektrum

Has anyone got any Orangerc stuff and is going to be at Chadderton that I could take a look at?

I had nothing but problems with FRsky. I tried to pin point the problem and I think it was the module. Maybe just a bad one?

Orange RC (GR300) ones dont work with modules unless they are DSM2 ground.
They do a DIY kit but its DSM2 for air and will not bind with the small ground receivers.

FRsky is good if you don't mind the look of the receiver.
I've been using the FRsky for a while now, better than the normal Spektrum module IMO

I fold the antenna inside and heat shrink them. I also do the pin bending mod. never had a problem.

I have a Futaba FF3 too and i'd like to convert it to 2.4, could you point me to the right frsky module?
I was thinking also about a Spektrum surface module and receiver but they are very hard to find.

Any suggestion would be very appreciated.

I've been using the 3VC and 3VCS for many years with the Futaba Module and paired to the FrSky TFR4 Receiver.

IMHO , this combo is bullet proof, never had a problem, never missed a beat, and the receivers are smaller than the Futaba version.

frsky works well for me, if you want to toughen up the rx, just fold the aeriel back in and fill the rx with sillicone sealant, making sure you dont glue up the button.....

i've been using frsky with my 3vc for one year now, with not a single problem... (5 different cars so quite some airtime for the Tx)

Set TX module to use the non-telemetry mode. The switch can be removed and just link the pins/contacts on PCB to set it in that mode permanently.

FrSky for me, a little bit of clear heatshrink around the V8R4-II receivers toughens them up a bit. For something older like the FF3 that only has PPM/PCM mode then the V8R4-II is your only option in PPM mode. If you are using a 3VC and it has the HRS mode then you can use the TFR4 receiver which comes in the usual plastic case.
