Red Racing- X-Ray 009 conversion
This is my X Ray conversion. Shame they've got the T3 out now as I'll have to modify it but oh well. Let me know what you think.

I dont race tourers bit this looks cool
One thing i would say, Where your speedo overhangs the chassis, id be tempted to make a carbon fibre "C" shape thats bigger than the speedo so that takes any impacts rather than the speedo... Good work though!!

how do the cells fit in, and do you reckon you could make one, for a TRF416 drivetrain?? As I think that looks sweet!

There's some tidy work in there bud. Looks a bit old school with the high belt mid motor, but there's nothing wrong with that! How have you gotten on with it?

I agree about the speedo. It was designed with the tekin in mind. V2 would have either speedo protection or an offset battery leaving all the electrics down one side.
Once I have decided that the principle works then I see no reason why this wouldn't work on a 416. It is definitely a compromise to have a high layshaft. There is also a small amount of increased drag in the front belt. The trick is weather the pay offs out way the compromises. I am hoping to get some testing done very soon at Maritime Raceway. I have done 4 runs so far a few months ago(until I bent a steering part and had to get it made stronger!). It seemed very good but nothing conclusive yet. |

Oh and the batteries on the prototype are pretty much built into the car. Only possible because of being able to use one set of lipos all night! I have looked at and designed a tray for the batteries to come in from the bottom(like TM E4). But I think offsetting them to the side is an easier option for the future.

the way I see it, setup might need to be a little different, but your not having to balance the car up, left to right, so weight should be less.

It was within 5g of perfect left to right and 1300g ready to run. 50g up front brought the balance to 49:51 front to back.

that sounds ideal to me, how much tighter does the front belt run, and is it possible to get a slightly longer main belt?

It's not that the belt is too tight it's just that it has to go round an extra bearing. The belt is already quite a lot longer than standard. 6 teeth I think.

ah, I see now, but then the Losi thing isn't exactly slow, not the TM, so the only issue I could see, is the belt flapping about a bit to much. Be interested to see some better pics.

Where did you source the longer front belt from? So far the longest belts I've found on any tourer are from the TC5 64/172 if memory serves... Working on a high layshaft project of my own but with saddles, the first incarnation worked quite well but there was far too much weight in the arse 46/54 which gave it alot of front end on corner entry.

I haven't run it yet in the latest version. But I am hoping to lend it to a top driver to use at the STTC at Eastbourne next weekend.
