Ah cool, was it this particular car which tempted you? hopefully it is what the class need, make it easier/cheaper for anyone already half tempted

The bodyshell will fit up against the moulded chassis, and is likely to fit via body clips, but its easy to add velcro to seal it from dirt/wet.

im not new new as i already got my self a cat200 with a boat load of spare's i have already raced and enjoyed it but it now need's more speed
but that will come later on i think

I chose the car because of its price tag and mainley sounds like its going to be a hit later on

Do you think it will be easy to strip the paint of the shell? Its a shame its painted as if a few people at the club want one they will all look the same, otherwise you really will need to pay another £20 ish to get a plain shell. Which puts the price of the kit (with bearings) up to around £80

The shells arent painted, but rather tinted before its moulded. There is no way of stripping the paint off the shell.

Will have to get a x-pro shell for £19.99.

Anyone have any experience of one of these MadRats?

Im quite interested in getting one for the missus, but id be uber miffed if someone told me they were ace when in fact they were rubbish?

Both myself and Martin now run them Cris. Their awesome quality and for £50 you just cant go wrong.

Give me a shout Chris and ill sort you out with one if you want dude. The shop i work at also now have ALL the spares in stock too.

I've just finished having a few runs around the garden with mine now

The last car I built was a Bosscat back in 1995 so I haven't got much to compare the build to.

They're pretty good buggys for the money. There's a few things that aren't brilliant, mainly the front wheel fitment. You can't do them up tight otherwise they won't spin freely, so they wobble a bit. Also I've had trouble getting the slipper clutch to slip! Even at the slackest setting the diff slips before the slipper. I had to file a couple of mm or so off the outer slipper hub (where the spring presses against) to slacken the tension off it to get it to slip easier.

A couple of the hub mouldings don't hold the bearings too tightly either, they're not really loose, but some of the bearings will fall out where as others are a nice fit.

Other than these things it's great. It drives nicely out of the box (although I've fitted 4wd minispikes all round and fitted ballraces) with plenty of steering.

I'd say they're a great car for beginners and club racers alike.

Who decided to fit the front body clip that way around though?!!!

I've come across this issue with other cars - my solution was to file/sand down the side the pins fit in to, so the hexes don't bind when tightened, as the pin does not nestle so deeply in the hex anymore. I presume the hexes are plastic?

In the pictures they have green aluminium tops etc on the shocks. (like the other ansmann budget range) Are they black aluminium or just plastic? its a bit naughty to have aluminium ones on the box but not inside isnt it?

I think you confuse the standard Ansmann Madrat with the competition Ansmann pro-x. Only the pro-x comes with the lovely green parts
