Default B44 hexes on a 511

Anyone fitted the above? It appears the hole centre needs drilling out to 5mm and the pin diameter to 2mm. Sounds easy but a wise man has told me they are hard and can crack rather than drill easily.

Need to change as all my front wheels are B44 hex width and having rounded loads of Losi wheels back in the day I now don’t trust a hex that narrow. How tight is the car in ‘the box’ I was planning on moving one of the inner CVD shims to the outside to get a fraction of width back to match on the back of the car.

Dan

Hi Dan, cars quite narrow so no worries shimming it out, I do it myself!

As for the hex, I've never stripped a front wheel as long as I mounted it right (the Tamiya wheels are a very tight fit!!), I am destroying rears though!!

Hey Dan,

I run BJ4 hex's on the front of my 511, saves messing about with washers..

It's been discussed here... http://oople.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61752

Seems there are two ways to get on those rims. First is to stick to Tamiya hexes but use a thin washer as a spacer (between hex and rim). 2nd is to drill out the B44 hex, then bend the B44 pin into a slight curve and get it into the holes (the holes are perfectly aligned, so you need the curve).

I've got a load of washers the perfect size for the b44 wheel. I can send you some on if you want Dan. To be honest though I do think it would be a lot better with the B44 hex fitted.

Dave / Griff, The Tamiya pin is shorter in length than the pins I normally run on the BJ4. Given that force & torque are multiplied by distance and extra length you can get pin wise would help. I use mainly Losi rear wheels though which take a longer pin.

Mike (Balders) do you mean B44 hexes? BJ4 hexes are Losi hexes which are narrow, though they would match Losi wheels perfectly.

Sim, thanks for the link, an excellent read!

James - pm sent, I'd like to try the washers if I balls up the B44 hexes.

Thanks all for input!
