Bloomers ran it at Southport, but we were having problems with tekin speedo, so it did not really show it off at its best, so i will not be using it until my Mamba Monster arrives from the states.

Its the R1 pro fitted with a 25v 2200uf cap and i run a fan onto the solder posts as these are the heatsinks, i think with holes drilled in the case it maybe more upto the job.
But its always in the back of my mind that its a 1/10 speedo running on double the voltage and pulling a heavy car. Were as the Monster is designed from the ground up for 1/8 cars, and the guys now using the rev2 speedo's are getting good results.

There a good thread on RCtech about using the R1 in 1/8th which proves interesting.Seems that the Fets are 30v so safe in that sense.
The only other thing is to run a external bec by the sound of it. Yep - V2 Monster seems ok after a few scare stories. Pete |

Already use a external bec and have read the threads on rctech and the tekin forum about using the R1 in a 1/8.
Some people get good results with them, if you get one let me know and i can send you some caps if you are running 4s.

I think the Monster will be the ticket, and also the revised Novak speedo if they have solved the thermaling issues, and they produce some lower Kv motors.

I went with the Tekno conversion as it retains the clutch and mechanical brakes which will presumably mean the esc doesn't have such a hard time. I realise that a lot of people will say why do you need a chassis just buy a motor mount and battery tray but I liked the idea of keeping the brakes & clutch and as the 8T RR donor vehicle is brand new the unwanted parts will go in the spares box for our nitro 8T's.

Nice article in this months Radio Race Car International. They've put a HV6.5 in an RC8 using the Novak conversion. They raced it in Coventry, sounded like it ran well, running along side and just pipping the nitros. Comfortably managed a 10 minute race with two Reedy 5000mah LiPos. The conversion sounded pretty straightforward, a dislike being the motor fan clashing with shell. They got round this by applying heat to stretch the shell out a bit.

Tested mine for duration last night with the trakpower lipos.
14.8v 25c 5000mah did 17minutes round deerdale astro, geared 15/46, the car was really quick. Will be trying 7400mah 14.8v 25c tonight or tommorrow geared down 14/46, will report back later.. Temperatures were perfectly ok: motor 150 , speedo 140, lipo 120 after the 17 mins. |

It is big! but trakpower are working on it
I think ive got my gearing pretty much spot on now: 14/46 with neu 1512 2.5 d/f The 7400mah 14.8v cells lasted 25 mins, the car was still very quick I have turned the throttle curve down to -22% and brake to -90% ! Its all going realy well now, looking forward to showing a few of you at stotfold (if they let me ) |

in large scale oval we use a 1/8th rallycross style car on road tyres and a salloon style body. As luck would have it 99% on the people racing use one kit which is the ftx street racer.
last winter i set about converting one of these to brushless and do some testng with the intent of racing it this year in the series against the nitro,s. i know rallycross and oval are different but in oval you are on full gas more than off so the draw on fuel is high. so with loads of data on pc from years of nitro cars racing and a venue to test at i started testing. ive used different motors, speedos direct drive, clutch and speedo brakes and mechanical brakes. my goal was to match the speed of the nitros not to be faster all before the series started. findings: 1.speedo brakes had big effect on my run time. 2.direct drive with the pinions available albeit hardend lasted about 10 runs. 3.anything less than 4cell lipo everything got to hot ive ended up using a waterproof boat speedo 4 cell lipo and a tekno clutch but 3 shoes and only 1 clutch shoe spring this acts as a 10th sliper clutch and is great. ive used this setup for 7 round of the series so far and its cost me no maintainace and it gave me a track record this sunday. i have just built a similar set up in a rallycross car for rallycross use and i am going to test it only difference will be to reduce the gearing as the rallycross tyres are bigger brushless speedo and motor for less than £100 cheeper than replacing my engine for this season. |

On my EC Xray XB8 and AE RC8 I'm currently suffering a bit from primary gear wear with the Novak pinions.. I have heard a Plastic spur gear helps a lot but the only one I could find was from a Thunder Tiger EB4 S2 RTR, although the dimensions are about right and the number of teeth at 46 are perfect, the holes where it mounts to the diff are too close together for the Xray and RC8...
Has anyone found a plastic spur that is a straight bolt on?? Tom

The only commonly used one is the Kyosho item.
RC Product designs do a modded version specifically for the RC8 though with a bit of reading I would assume you could mod one yourself. http://www.rcproductdesigns.com/EigthScaleParts.htm Dunno about the xray one though Pete |
