Was stuggling with my car generating grip yesterday at Eden Park, and realised that changing batterys recently has ment my car is slightly lighter than it was before by about 50g!!

So the question is what weights are your cars running at?

Mine is approx 2g over minimum weight currently. I am going to have to check it again when we go to Minispikes as the tyres are lighter.

was my first time running mini spikes too, i think that this may have been the problem! Need to put some weight on!!

Do you add any weight to the car to balance it out at all.

i.e. when front end is nose heavy over jumps.

Well it just depends how you feel it handles. Its all trial and error and a lot of the time its hard to tell any difference from one run to the next.

For jumping, I change the wing. I notice you are using the kit wing which is tiny, so it will jump nose down - I recommend the Hot Bodies High down force wings, they come as a pair, are very cheap and are VERY strong. I always use one of these with full gurney (rear left as high as the sides) and it jumps fantastic and I don't change it atall now.... outdoors may be a different story though.

My SX weighed in at a healthy 1615g yesterday at EPR.

Wow, Andy and Stu, how are your cars so heavy!!! Without lead mine would be 40g under the minimum.

I do remember that old of the box with my R/C stuff, the SX LiPo weighed in at just under the legal minimum with a typical lipo.
I wanted ti to be just over the 1600g mark so as to make sure it doesn't get too critical on the scales for scrutineering.
I leave my roll bars fitted and just remove one link if they are not being used - so I guess that helps a little bit.

Either that or it must be the heavy shock oil that I was using

Stu was using the S1 car so maybe the S1 composite is also a bit heavier - he was really going well with it

Will have to weight my car again and see what it is, but im sure it was only just over legal limit before i changed lipos and to spikes!

I am just 'fettling' with my Cat (...carefull) at the moment and have not raced anything for about 15 years, so could you tell me what the minimum weight is? Also what type of weights do you use and where?

If I recall correctly from memory (I don't have my handbook with me), BRCA minimum 4WD weight is 1588g.

As for additional weights - stick on alloy wheel weights are what most people use - widely available in 5g and 10g 'strips'.
They used to be lead but now they are more environmentally friendly - so they're a bit bigger than lead to package.

Brass is also a useful material for adding weight as it is quite dense.

As for where - difficult one to answer without going into weight distribution etc etc. But lower rather than higher and make sure you retain a left/right balance once fully loaded.
Front / Rear balance - you use to fine tune the handling.

Big can of worms though - and hugely topical right now

Im pretty sure that the minimum weight is 1588 grams.. Read in Racer or similar magazine..
