Default Rear wing sizes

Hi

Was not sure where was best to post this.

But I am currenlty building a rc car as a University project.

My job is to design and build a movable rear wing.

I have been doing some research into it and can not seem to find any equations for calculating the size of wing needed or the angles needed.

It is a 1/8th size with a nitro engine and 1/10th TC wheels and tyres.

I was planning on running a bar from the brake/throttle servo to the wing to change the angle but if u can think of another way this would also be useful.

Thanks in advance.
James

there is a book on aerodynamics ..

this is it..... very good if you can get it...

Competition Car Aerodynamics: A Practical Handbook, Simon McBeath,

itll give you some good pointers anyway...i wish id have done my uni project on buggys rather than wasting loads of time on full cars with too many people pulling in different directions..

there is another book about vehicle suspension and the coefficient of friction...but a cant think what its called right now... ...

Same

I studied 1/10th TC bodies as part of my degree.

Remember you can't scale down air. Just be wary of that with whatever you design.

I've done this before on a 1 10th tc, using a small servo on the 3rd channel and the mix functions on the transmitter.
this meant the wing can come up more as there's more steering input, more as the brakes are applied and less on full power or more or less any other way you want to setup the mix's

there is not one formula to determine what wing size you need this is something you need to decide depending on the track and conditions..... you need to work out how fast the car is... what cornering forces it produces in relation to its weight. then you work out how much downforce a certain wing creates (as they are different depending on the shape) and then you can add this extra weight (downforce) to your coefficient of friction equations and then you can decide which wing you want to run....
so basically you need a way of testing your wings....

this is just an idea but if you can set up something to blow wind over the car at a certain speed (the average speed of the car) then you could try different wings and put scales under the car and the change in weight will give you your downforce.....

i do wish id done my final year project on a 1/10th scale buggy....
