Getting a Macnum - Have a few questions...

Hi All

I'm getting a Macnum and have most of the tools required, but I need to find out what size alen/hex wrenches I need to complete the kit - Can anyone tell me please?

I keep reading that the top of the shocks can easily pop off on the standard units. Will a bit of CA fix that, or do I need to upgrade? If so, can someone please recommend an affordable alternative set?

I'm going to be running a brushed 15x4 motor and wondered whether I'll have to do anything to the gearing?

Hex sizes will normally be 2mm all round, with 2.5 for the motor screws and 1.5 for the pinion. Kits usually contain cheap allen keys to get you going, but it is better to have proper drivers to make things easier.

The kit shocks are fairly poor. I wouldn't glue the tops on as this will cause future issues when rebuilding them.
I believe ansmann do a cheap set of alloy shocks as an upgrade, don't have the part number to hand. Our you can look around and pick up a second hand set of shocks.

Not sure on the gearing I'm afraid, been while since I ran brushed!

Here are some cheap Ansmann alloy shocks, not sure about quality, probably not amazing but better than the plastic kit ones:

Thanks Dan... I don't suppose you know the sizes I need?

I don't have the kit yet, so can't measure them myself and wanted to get them at the same time as the kit really.

If not, no worries - I'll just wait a while and get them once I've built the kit.

For my macnum I had a spare set of durango shocks and mounts, towers needed drilling out, they perform awesomely

Mate i'm having the same problem with the lengths, ive ordered mine now i ordered 75mm for the front and 95mm for the rear but the rear ones will give you 'droop' where your shocks push you suspension arms down too far by 0.5-1cm you can fix this buy buying some firm silicone tubing for a nitro and putting it under the piston buy un-assembling the shocks or change the bottom eyelet for the ball stud either will work but cutting 0.5cm of silicone tubing works best
