Guys

1st post so be gentle !!

I bought my son a cheap RC for christmas, he loves it and suprisingly so did I

I've been looking about to get myself something but genuinely don't have a clue.

I have been looking to sell/trade one of my OS BMX's on a different forum and someones offered me a trade on a HPI Nitro GT3.

Are they any good? It could be a quick way for me to get into it.

Best bet is to take the Engine out and fit electrics

Hi, welcome.

I don't know anything about that particular car (I much prefer electric, nitro = smelly and noisy!) but I would say, think about what you intend to do with it.

If you are bashing (just messing about in a park or carpark) the noise of the nitro might limit where or when you can use it.

If you are planning to race, find out what tracks are near to you and see if they are predominately on-road/off-road, nitro or electric, then chat to some of the racers there and see what they recommend.

Depends if you planning on racing or just bashing. If your planning on racing i'd check out were your local club is and see what they race whats popular whats not etc..

Where abouts in Hampshire are you ? I'm sort of local ish to that area. Clanfield is just re-opening, it's near Portsmouth, off road track suitable to 8th cars, very relaxed, great bunch of guys there.

Or TORCH which is just off M27 J7 is an off road electric track running mainly mainly 10th scale buggies but a few of the members have bought Short Course trucks.

As for the car you've been offered - It's an on road chassis so no good at the tracks I've mentioned, not sure where runs on road - Aldershot do but I've not been keeping up with on road recently, off road is a lot more fun !

Would be looking at just bashing (as you put it).

From looking on youtube, I already thought I'd prefer electric but seems quite a good car. I also would prefer off road as I can't imagine where you could take it to thrash it? At those speeds I'd imagine you need a load of space!!

Is it easy to swap over to electric? Could I move on the nitro engine to pay towards the swap?

Would prefer off road, just thought it was a bit of a deal tbh.

My advice would be to avoid it.
I am guessing it's an RS4 with a GT3 body on it.
It is not race worthy and there are not many places to bash with a circuit car.
You can't convert it to electric and if it hasn't been loved it may already be shot.
Sell the bike and spend the money on an entry level buggy like an Ansmann Mad Rat (for example).

With your location as get Pip said sell the bike and then look at the local clubs for 1/10th Titchfield Off Road Club Hants or 1/8th if Clanfield does reopen?
pop along to Titchfield have a look around ask as many questions as you need and then go from there, Titchfield race every Sunday 8am till about 1pm with an all day meeting thrown in every month.

For someone starting out I would say electric is much easier and therefore as Chris has said TORCH is your nearest plus as dudders mentioned you've got Surrey and Hants too.

Also down at Three Legged Cross is another off road electric track, it's more bashing than racing with Electric Truggies ( a cross between a truck and a buggy ), LINK, that's just down the road from me but I'd rather go to Clanfield to race as it's better, you could pop down there this Sunday as it's being reopened but work is still being done on it so I don't know when it will be fully open again. It will give you an idea of what's going on and you can talk to people about the cars they're driving.

All that said I think apart from the locations suggested you should sell the bike and get a basic buggy to get you going with the electrics. TORCH is also running that day so maybe you could get to there and Clanfield in one day... give yourself a real idea of what it's like.

If I'm looking to purchase something around the £150 mark, which brands should I be looking at? Do you have any model recommendations?

I'm really after off road, electric. I do quite like the look of the trucks but am happy for anything half decent

Take alook at the Ansmann kits there are RTR versions for around the £150 mark spares should be easy to get hold of and cheap too

Yup, good advice, or you can get a Associted B4.1 for a wee bit more (brushed version). Think Apex have both in stock today www apexmodels.co. Ask for Dean for some no nonsense advise.

Seems to be plenty of people on my forum wanting a trade; economy has most people skint so not much chance of a sell at the mo. Bikes prob worth about £200. I'm not in a rush, I could just leave it and go buy something... Just easier to trade than buy more sh!!*, you know how the wives think!!
