Bashing: Rat or Monkey?
Guys,
I have another thread where I've asked for recommendations on something that will spend 90% of its time being bashed about on bmx tracks etc. I've had some great recommendations and am trying to narrow it down. Alot of people recommend the Rat. Having looked, the Monkeys don't clost alot more. Whats the difference? Is one better suited? or should I be looking elsewhere for bashing? Thanks |

for bashing and having a bit of fun i would go for the mad rat in the dry, how ever the mad monkey with the motor mid mounted would offer more protection for your electrics.

Either are good cars. I went for the Monkey for the reason posted above, having the motor in the middle of the car offers more protection rather than having it hanging out the back as the Rat does.
I've been really happy with the car. The main frustration I've had with the Monkey is the availability of clear shells. The pre-printed shells aren't very strong and didn't last us long. Ansmann don't sell a clear stronger version (the X2C pro has a narrower chasis) so I ended up getting one imported from Hong Kong. There is a seller in the UK (Concept Racing on Oople) that makes them also though, and people have been very happy with these. The Rat can use the X pro shells.

Thanks Guys,
I'll most likely go with the Monkey then. Is there a way to make them more waterproof? Happy to spend the money!! Additionally, do you have a link to the shells? Thanks in advance |

Bit of velcro on the side of the chassis and inside the shell will help keeps dirt and some of the wet out.
Make sure you clean the chassis well as it came off quickly when I did it, but I'd put the fluffy side on the shell and that alone seemed to help keep stuff out.

I'll throw a spanner at the Monkey...
For bashing I prefer My Macnum granted that 10% of racing you might fancy doing is now more limited due to being a truggy...but it's a fantastic basher is the Macnum J |

Was going to go with the Macnum but the boy doesn't like the look!

I admit, I haven't seen either in the flesh.
What other shells can you get for the macnum? |

stick with the mad monkey. if you get the feeling to race, then you have more chance with a mad monkey, with the macnum there is a chance that you will get put out with the SC trucks

Thanks Guys,
Will purchase the Monkey. So a couple more Q's and I'll order tonight, apols for all the questions If I look at the sport combo http://www.modelsport.co.uk/ansmann-...products/39323 It suggests the Ansmann W5 but I was looking at the Kyosho Syncro KT201. I appreciate its twice the price but thought it may be better for the little man as it doesn't have an extended aerial (the metal aerial on his cheap scooby looks like the letter S!) and it suggests its lighter as its only 4 batteries so may be better for him, assuming he can pry it from my hands The other option is the battery. It suggest a 3300 7.2V but also offers a 4500 7.2V, will this give me better run time? Also have seen bits on the forum around bearings replacing the bushes, shall I buy them at the same time? All recommendations appreciated. I'm bored of looking and want to start building Thanks in advance |

dont worry about asking questions, it's fine, i would say 90% of the people on this forum will offer good advice.
the best thing is to go to a shop or club near you and get your lad to hold a few and see what feels ok to him. |

The 4500 will be a better choice if it's in the budget. Bearings... RC Bearings sell Madrat ones. Not sure if that's a perfect set for a Monkey. J |

Bashing only - Macnum (trucks just do it better!)
Bash and race - Mad Rat Race - Mad Monkey In this case, the cost of your other kit far outweighs the cost of the chassis, so make sure you get it right.
