Hi there, high revving at idle can be adjusted with the idle screw although as long as it's not engaging the clutch at idle then not too much of an issue. When you give it some welly can you hear it bogging down with excess fuel before it dies, a kind of burbling noise, or does it sound like it's going like the clappers then suddenly cut? Much/any smoke coming from the exhaust?

Giving the car 30 seconds to warm up at idle with just light blipping of the throttle can also help get a stubborn engine to play ball, they can be fickle until they're up to temp sometimes...

Hi
It sounds as though you have an air leak. Try checking the seals on the carb to crankcase and the endcap at the side of the crancase. Some times a small amount of silicone type sealer can help. Also check the washers or seals on the banjo connecton where the fuel pipe joins the carburettor.
