Motor to ESC connection...
So, is there a specific reason that most brushless systems have the ABC wires soldered direct from motor to esc, rather than having a connector between them?
Is there anyone out in oOpleland who is already using a connector rather than soldering everything direct? I only ask as its gotta be a bit of a faff about if you want / need to switch motors, and having a decent (locking) 3 pin connector would seem like the best option. Thoughts? Gray

Resistance and consistency of the joint. Soldered joint is far better than using a connector.

I have, and do, use connectors on some 2wd cars.
I use the 3.5mm corally type and have never had a problem. I find it useful when removing the gearbox. |

I use the smaller connectors available in 3 pairs from JE Models, Simply RC brand I think. I do so to allow me to change quickly between mid and rear motor on the RB6.
I run direct soldered connections on the Lazer though. |

Yup, 3.5mm connectors on everything, easier to strip out cars, easier to swap motors, easier to solder the actual wires in place in the first place.
Just don't get cheap connectors, mine are usually tight enough to require a proper pull to get them apart, plenty of surface area. Other ones i've seen come apart with a gentle wiiggle. |

I use 3.5mm bullets as well. Male on the motor. I heat shrink them and then join them then heat shrink both together so they can't get pulled apart in a crash or with movement but a quick cut and its easy to undo them.
