Default Indoor dex 210 help required

I am intending to head down to Maritime Raceway to do some indoor racing. I have a stock DEX210, and have trawled Petit RC for set ups. There are quite a few carpet set ups from the likes of Skelding, Honigl, Neumann, and Collinson.

I was on the verge of the Collinson set up from Ardent, but that uses d-boots, and I am told that yellow minipins are the way to go. On the other hand if I go for the neaumann set up it appears to require different springs.

I am from a TC/12th background - mostly TC - and really am at a bit of a loss ass to where to go. I did a little outdoor racing with the stock springs and 30wt oil and found the car to squat down wuite a lot at the back, and when going through corners the car would pitch and dig in on the outside front wheel causing it to roll. that being the case, should I be using heavier oils and a piston that would pack up more?

Help me Obiwan Kenobi ur my only hope

Hi mate,

i seem to have found a generic set up for my 210 which works on nearly all tracks.

Now all i do is fine tune a few things, such as ride height and front camber links.

This is my generic set up:

Front:

Shocks = 3x1.6mm pistons, 35wt oil, dark blue spring. Middle hole on shock tower, outer hole on wishbone.

Caster = 30 degree (+5 insert)

axle = trailing (kit standard)

Camber link = outer hole on hub & outer hole shock tower for high grip. Inner hole on hub & inner hole on shock tower tower for low traction. 2mm washers under inner ball stud.

Ackerman = Middle hole.

Rear:

Shocks = 4x1.6mm pistons, 30wt oil, light green springs. Middle hole on shock tower, middle hole on wishbone.

Toe in = 3 degree (0 degree inserts)

Anti-squat = 1.5

Camber links = 2mm washer under inner ball stud, 2nd from outer hole on hub.

Wheelbase = middle

Diff = geared diff with 1k oil on really high grip tracks (all carpet or astro), ball diff everywhere else.

Battery position = middle

Droop = maximum (wishbone screws all the way in)

The above hardly changes on any track. I only make very small changes depending what the car is doing on the day.

Hope this helps.

Craig Collinson.

Grest setup Craig

Maritime is not high grip tho apart from the straight

All on throttle corners and acceleration points apart from one are on floor bourds or wood sheets.

Craig - I was watching you at Southport yesterday. Your car looked well planted. Did you have it set up as per your post above?

Hi mate,

my set up on Sunday was very similar.

The main difference was the rear shocks. I started off with my generic set up, but the rear shocks were far too soft. The car was collapsing mid corner, as the grip was so high.

I put my RHR dirt car shocks on, which had 4x1.4mm pistons, 30wt oil and light red springs.

I put these on for round 4 and the final, and the car was much better. Felt more stable and stopped the rear from collapsing, which allowed me to carry more corner speed.

I used a geared diff with 1k oil.

Everything else was set up the same as my original post above.

Craig.

My set up was almost identical, light red rear etc. One difference, I was running purple fronts - there again I like the more aggressive feel of partial in-line steering, I use a 2 insert. Perhaps it helps to explain why I go for a heavier front spring.

Anyway, good to see I'm pretty well in line with yours and it's the driving ability that I'm lacking

Oh! one last question. What tyres were you running? I was using Bally Mini Spike Whites on the rear, no spikes cut and found them just marginally better than Schuy Yellow's. Cut low profile Schuy Yellow Staggered fronts.

Minipins don't work very well at Maritime yet, spikes are better

I disagree with that statement Chris I think you will find 8 out of the top 10 at the off road wars were on pins it was myself and Ellis who ran spikes and I for one felt there was more corner speed to get from mini pins.

At the big event as the grip comes up, yes they work, on the club nights though, they don't work yet.. maybe they'll be ok after a few more meetings as the track is brand new still.

Spikes were definitely faster at the first and second club meet.

Majority of racers where running worn pins. Brand new tyres do not work at all. You need to bed the spikes in.

There where a few running spikes, they seem to offer alot more forward traction on the grippy stuff, but a little less bite on the slippy stuff. It's a toss up really between the two. either way whatever you choose needs to be worn.

I wouldnt agree there Chris. I ran minipins for the first event. On the tuesday club night a few days later i ran the same tyres, slightly more worn and went 1.5 laps faster. Majority of racers are running minipins too in the top heats.

Will take a look tonight as to what people are running. It maybe your car is working better on the spikes due to your setup perhaps

Not sure what to say really, experience of running there says pins don't work and spikes do, make of it what you will.

2nd at the 1st club night (times would have been 4th at rnd1 of the sunday event) so I must be doing something right...

Likewise ive been in the top 10 club nights for the last 2 weeks and with a time that would have put me in the B final at the first round, running minipins.

Alot of this don't forget can also depend on car setup and also driver preference. The only thing I think that is lateral across any tyre is that it does need to be worn in, new just doesn't work on the floor boards.

Im running (top of my head)

Front

600wt MM oil, Yellow Springs, kit caster, -2 camber, top link in outer hole (tower), outer hole (cHub), Inner link 2 mm spacer, 0 toe, 19mm RH, 6x1.2 pistons, top ackerman hole, 4mm on knuckle (steering), 1mm top and bottom of knuckle, shocks (tower) inner outer (WB), 65g RDRP bulkhead

Rear

300wt MM oil, Kit blue springs, +2/3 kickup/toe, 0mm under top link (inner), inner whole (tower) hole 2 on hub (Exotek) + 2mm spacer, Hub spaced central in wishbone, 18mm RH, Gear Diff (1000wt), MM4, Shocks (tower) inner, middle (WB)

Cell run towards rear of car

I think all it's done is say to people that there's more than one option out there

Some prefer pins, some prefer spikes.

I've found worn mini pins to have the most consistent feel, but i have been constantly playing with set up. at practice on sat i chucked on some part worn spikes and the car was pretty good although not sure i can push so hard on them.
