This is the second way I put mine in. I first ran the wires around behind the spur and under the upper brace similar to the way Masami did his. This was much neater but was a pain in the butt to work on, running the wires overtop allows me to pull the whole works out without soldering. This allows me to put in a brushed system within a few minutes.
I also put two fans on to help keep the unit cool but I still have a hard time keeping it cool. I am using the stock spur and a 12 tooth pinion on the Neo 4 star and it is stupid fast. To get the correct gear backlash I had to file the slots for the screws a little longer. I am just maxing out on speed as it is still accellerating at the end of the straight. If anybody uses this setup I had to really dial down the speed control to get traction offroad and used the throttle exp.to get more control on loose surfaces. |

Looks like it was pretty hard to get the brushless system to fit in there, I also notice that youve had a go at blocking up the holes to the rear diff, seems like a good idea.

Seems insanely undergeared to me, can't see it needed that small a pinion, might be why it's getting really hot...but then again i don't own a bx lol.

have you tried gearing up instead of down? a 12 pinion seems very very small for any car :-o
you could possibly be very undergeared hence the heat problem? what does the LRP manual suggest? |

you can overheat from under gearing and allowing your motor to rev out to much, a twelve tooth, thats lower than a snakes testicle..

With anymore teeth on the pinion I am getting thermal shutdown on the speed control. Due to dirt causing havoc with the belts, most of the openings have to be blocked off. Something to remember is that the 4 star revs to 61k while most others rev only to 45 to 55k. More gear can be used as the track loosens up but to keep the car consistant I stay with the wet track setup. When I use a 9 turn Checkpoint and a VFS-1 I usually use a 13 or 14 pinion and the motor comes off at about 190F. This seems to be the norm at our track with the BX.

you got to remember, some of the motors are realy aimed at the TC market (yes, flame me if you wish) but they are, and the motor you got is just to much.
You could always put a little filter cloth over the openings to keep the dust out.

Yeah but it was the kit motor with the competition speed control, I haven't got around to buying a different one yet. It will run and run fast but it takes a little more on the setup. I would think that the three star would be about right as a 9 turn seems perfect.

Hi all,
@Cammer, i use the same Brushless System in the BX, but i stepped down the esc to value 2 "very linear" with that and a little vetilator on the esc i use a 17 Pinion. i got no overheating Problems, the neo4-star get's hot while revving to much, and the esc get's hot while delivering the motor more current to get to them rev's Greets Marco

Hi Marco,
Could you post a picture to see how you've fitted the brushless system, please? Thanks! |

Hi you all, this is my first post in this forum, I came from Spain. As you may know the summer here is quite hotter than UK and we are not having too much troubles about overheating (sometimes there is a thermal cut off, but nothing dramatic) while using a fan for the ESC and a gear ratio around 11 with the Novak 4.5R, wich is similar to Neo 4 star
