Which Pinions
What make of pinions do people use and why.
Are there benefits to using ally over steel (weight obviously, what about noise and wear???) |

I use the one DC Racing have in stock at the time I order them ... LOL
Ali pinions are great in the short term however they do tend to wear quickly. Steel last longer but heavier. With modern motors I belive that the difference between an ali and steel pinion is not an issue, sure somebody will disagree though! |

having a heavier pinion is better than no pinion at all

i've found that the tamiya corse pitch ones wear badly. But the fine pitch one are fine.
Edit are making some EXTREMELY light weight ones, they're highly recomended, not sure on availability yet though. Sure Adam can hrow some light on that side of things. |

I think i use the Rw ones also.. to be fair, I bought pinions when I started.. and i'm still using the same ones now, that's a good near 8 years now.. and i've never found a need to renew them.

My RW ones have proven very hard wearing, I had them 20-odd years ago (think they were under a different name then, SRM or something?) and also currently.
The quietest pinions I have are the Kawada ones. The only ones I would not recommend are the plastic pinions made by one of the american manufacturers, they wear like crazy and have an oversized boss too. |

I use RW too from Castle models. When I got my brushless and knew I was never going to use anything over a 23 again I bought all new from 15 to 23 even though I had them all already, I really felt I was splashing out too
But I've lost one by lending it to someone and them not giving it back, anyone going to own up?

I want to replace all mine. I currently have a variety of brands, some of which have mullered grub screws, some of which won't interchange grub screws, and so on.. I had a pinion fall off for the first time in years last weekend.
I am interested in the Edit brand, wonder if Adam can throw some light on it for us? I get the impression that there stuff is made to the highest quality. Chris |

Pinions
Chris.
Adam [ and few others drivers] as been using the Edit brand for a few meetings and so far we have had no wear problems. I like the through mounting which means that if the thread wears in the Pinion you can mount with the screw in the other side. I beleave they will be available in the New Year. They will be in use at Worksop on the 6th. Lindsay. |

i have run the rw pinions for years and like others still have some srm ones as well :O. althought the idea of the edit ones being able to use the other side when they finally strip out will have me trying them
