whats yours worth?
Hi guys. I had a great thought yesterday when I was totting up my expenses on my new tc02 evo pro build and wondered if you actually realise what you've spent on this "inexpensive hobby"
Well mine is the full tc02evo kit from modelsport retailing at £109 with free postage After that it gets scary. * Full upgrade pack from team c £232.29 * batteries £160 (various) * tyres approx £60 (different sets for setups) * esc & motor £79.99 (Etronix photon 9.0) * radio gear (mines only a basic maverick 2.4ghz set) £36.99 * carbon esc mount £14 * rear wings £16 * charger £47 (ansmann xbase deluxe) * t-bone racing bumper/skid £17 * garodisc clutch £22 * stainless screw set £15 * misc oils and greased £10 * savox servo £47 * serrated m4 set £4 * brca licence subscription £17 annually And the list will go on and on and on an....... So to summarise.... Do you tell your partner the costs of this "inexpensive hobby"? Cos I certainly don't!! Last edited by Danxr3i; 02-02-2014 at 05:10 AM. Reason: mispelt!!! |

Very cheap compared to my other hobby (cycling). Very very very cheap.
If I was still racing competitively, my annual wheel and tyre budget would probably keep a factory driver in equipment. Just glad that I've never had to self fund at any sort of level. Always had some sort of an equipment/expenses deal. |

One of the things I make a point of never never ever doing, adding total costs up
all the track side frustration, anger, disappointment, cold days, wet days and long journeys……and now and again satisfaction and happiness priceless! but after close to 30 years I don't regret a penny and never happier than on a rostrum with a transmitter (as long as it's going well) I think it costs a fortune, then I speak to someone running a full sized track car,or worse rally car, now that really is expensive

If I add up what it costs me to do one National class starting from scratch with all the gear I need, then it works out at £40 a heat/final in the first year!!
With the car, radio, etc. paid for it is still £12 a heat/final for a season's costs excluding travel/accommodation, and in 12th I get eight minutes of joy for that, not five! No wonder people are liking GT12, my costs for that in this year's Nationals are only £8 a race and the tyres look like being usable all next year too. That brings it down to about £7 a race. Ted Toleman (as in The Toleman F1 team that gave Senna his first F1 drive) was also big into offshore power boating. When asked what it was like, he said "It's like standing in the shower tearing up £10 notes!" Sometimes it is best not to think too deeply about the things we do for fun... |

MB models who i frequently shop with have a buying history... this is something i always avoid as i really dont want to know what ive spent!
If i enjoy it, and can afford it, and attend often ill continue doing it! |

I don't actually mind the cost as it's a great hobby to be involved in and to be honest I've probably spent a years wages on it over the 18yrs or so I've been doing it. I just wondered what my ongoing project was totting up at. 😃
