shock o-rings... where to get them?
Morning!
I need to replace the seals on some big-bore shocks and was wondering whether there is a source of o-rings that doesn't involve buying the kit TU0250-8? The kit seems strange in that it only has 4 of 9x1 o-rings, when the manual says you need 8 of them?? Any advice? Thank you |

I aways found Eriks to be very good but you need to know the size and material.

I use these as the kit o-rings swell considerably making the shock action a bit stiff.
http://www.rccarshop.co.uk/index.php...-oil-free.html I have only just started using these so can't offer much advice if they are completely leak free, but I expect them to be.

Good question, since I'm driving a TeamC car I hace been looking for a compatible and better quality orings for the bigbore shoks like AE xrings.

I ended up buying the black orings from here https://www.polymax.co.uk/o-rings/.
I couldn't find a sensible source for the 2.8*1.9 silicone rings so went for the team c ones which I found as part T01035. |

I recently tested byt taking 3 different brands, measuring them, then sticking them in silicone oil for a week and measuring again. Only one brand stayed the same size. One of the 3 had massively swollen. When they swell, they put pressure on the shock shaft and make the suspension stiffer.

Team C, RDRP and Yokomo high grade (blue).
I currently have the Yokomo O-rings installed and the didn't leak and have stayed consistent, however they are only one meeting old.

Ta. Would you mind saying which ones you found swelled least?

Yokomo blue high grade, that is why I have went with them. They are £4 for 8 at mb models from memory. The Team C were the worst but that's not news, they swell very quickly causing much stiffer suspension.

just one thing to note if you use a type of seal that doesn't swell at all - it will need to be the perfect size otherwise it will leak. I've not used the Yokomo seals but the RDRP seals are the ones I always used and they worked really well.
They come in a pack of 16 so there's enough to do 2 full cars for £4.79 http://insidelinemodels.com/inside-l..._category_id=0 Kev Lee |

We found the Yokomo blue high grade leaked a little so we are currently testing the clear Yokomo ones from bmax kit.

ASC91493. AE skocks improve a lot with this orings. And can be cleaned and used 2 or 3 times.

I did extensive testing on O-rings during my time with the Team C UK team.
Lots of pros and cons to all the seals - both O-Ring and X-Ring. Considering the balance point of cost to availability to performance - the RDRP Orings came out on top. Blue (Flourosilicone) orings don't swell at all as they are a 100% compatible material with Silicone oil, but absolutely no swell leads to catastrophic failures once dirt and astro/carpet fibres get into the seal. Translucent and white (food grade) orings swell quite slowly, and give a good consistent seal. In relatively clean conditions, these seals can last several months. Red Silicone (kit) orings swell the most and quite quickly. Maybe only one or two meetings and they need replacing. AE X-Rings are too small for the standard Team C shock cartridge - you get a leak path around the outside of x-ring. They are usable after they swell up - but no better than the RDRP. Blue X-rings just leak - not suitable. Hope this info helps. William White

Edit: I may have found the info out now but would need confirmation from someone in the know. Looks like a Nitrile (Buna-N, NBR) material. Found this data from this chart: https://www.globaloring.com/oring-colors/ Also found this data which may be of use. It basically shows that most other types of o-ring are compatible with silicone shock oil. Other than the Silicone S70 one Team C decided to include in the kit! http://www.efunda.com/designstandard...ilicone%20Oils Last edited by adon30; 06-04-2018 at 07:48 AM. |
