Default Cutting springs

I have a set of silver front springs for the xx4 and have seen on certain setups they are trimmed/cut. The amount i see them cut by is 1.5

Is this 1.5 turns of the spring or 1.5cm?

It's 1 1/2 turns you need to cut.
