Not sure on numbers but I owned one, and a Limo version and 4 or 5 saloons in my time, all the Coupe were Ghia and built in Germany I recall, mine was pale blue, bronze and red the other main colours, awesome machines, wish mine was still around.
PS if you see rear light lenses, not the painted fading ones, buy em, they fit Lamborghini Espadas and fetch ££££

Are you having a laugh?!!!!!
My mates got 3 sets of rear light lense's for a mk1 granada coupe, well he's actually got the whole car to say the least but im 99% sure that the car will end up on the banger track, unless it rots away into nothingness before then lol

I am dead serious, I was a member of Mk1 owners club, aand found a NIP set at local autoelectrical shop in clearance, already had good ones on my limo, was at national meet at water aprk at Northampton, and a Esapda owner was trawling for some, made my day!
They suffered from typical ford clear lenses painted red which faded on first ones, but facelift ones around 1977 had red plastic, that's the ones, Lambo turned em upside down on Espada, cheaper than making from scratch.
Look familiar?

Mine was around in 1981, long before digital cameras, not even sure if I got a pic left, was an L reg pale metallic blue with blue velour interior, but autobox fell apart twice.
This is what mine was like right wheeltrims. later had alloys and my colour with vinyl roof, that is early ghia grille later had black.

, and to think, the amount of these ive seen on the banger track lately is amazing, i take it yours had the standard 3 litre essex engine or did you change it, to me theres not a sweeter noise than an essex engine half way through the rev range....pure bliss

Stock motor, was a hell of a lot quicker than the SD1 V8 3.5 it replaced, after its autobox fell out, me and autoboxes don't like each other.
I had a Mk1 red Consul GT as well, manual 3.0 manual steering, limited slip diff, would drift round any roundabout in 3rd.
Best version of Essex was in a Mk1 Capri Paddy Hopkirk replica my insane brother built. Manual box and steering, and a 3.1 RS with Kent Hi-lift cams and a Holly carb. if you ever want an adrenalin rush 140mph clocked on Rostyles with 165/85 13 inch michelins is the way to go

Mk1 capri, manual 3litre essex, ive never actually seen an essex engine on a manual box other than whats in my mates Ford A series recovery truck, that iv just done head gaskets on, wishing id never done em now, would love to have a Mk1 Capri or Granada coupe on the road but as im 17 insurance would be silly and id spend half the time trying to stop banger boys from knicking it lol, it would have to have 24/7 security on it.

Yep my brother is an oddball. He stuck one in a Mk1 Escort as well, my Consul was manual stock, but the Capri had a Transit Diff to handle the hassle
Paddy Hopkirk were black with Gold "Hockey stick" and a fibreglass whale tail on the boot.
He did drag a Mk2 Green 3.1RS capri dropped 16 second standing quarters at our run what you brung.
His Piece de resistance was abeaten up combi with the flat 6 3.0 Turbo out of the 911 he wrecked, that was an eyeopener at lights

Savage - plenty of Mk1 Granny's been raced over the last few weeks eh?

My Bro had a Mk2 Cortina 1600GT which we dropped a 250bhp Race / Rally lump in years ago. Plenty of sideways and huge grins

I had a Mk2 with 4 clocks over dash, but it was an early one with 1500GT out of Mk1 with Mangoletsi manifold, went like stink for a 1500, first car I bought myself was a sunburst red Mk3 Cortina 1600XL with Capri engine and box, rostyles Firestones and gabriel shocks, plus the first Sharp autoreverse Cassete twin electric aerials and a graphic equaliser on dash with 10 red leds each side, pimp my ride was alive and well in 1980

Yep, ive noticed how many have been raced lately, my mates got a mk1 coupe but he wont let it go for any 'reasonable' amount of money, he's also got a 'hanging' mk2 estate but wont sell that either.
Sideways in a mk2 cortina though, dunno if id feel safe with 250bhp under the bonnet with standard running gear, or did you upgrade that as well?
