Additive at a minimum, warmers if possible.

Hi i use sorex 24r rubber tyres along with nosram carpet additive/cs rubber tyre cleaner and a set of Much more ctx-w tyre warmers for carpet racing seem's to work well.
As for the tyre warmers thay don't help that much with the grip but thay do speed up the drying time of the additive Gary |

I would say that additive is used to increase the grip overall of the tyres, if applied correctly, throughout the race. This is a minimum requirement, I would say.
Tyres warmers tend to help get the tyres up to temperature quicker. Therefore, they help you get better grip levels immediately, rather than waiting for a few laps before they warm up. But they don't add any more grip overall. Depending on what tyres you use, tyre warmers can be an unnecessary evil by either overheating the tyres, or heating them up too early so that you overheat the tyres towards the end of the race. Hope that makes sense, and helps! |

Totally agree with above, warmers are used to get the best of your tyres from the very start but don't increase there traction but as said above you run the fist of over heating them earlier in a run. I run 28's and warm them to 40 at big events but at my small club I use 32's and don't use warmers at all.
Also dependent on carpet being used

Apologies for the thread hijack (esp as I don't even tun a TC any more) but one thing I noticed was, as has been said, tyre warmers work well bringing tyres up to running temp, especially on carpet, carpet being indoors, but have never seen mains powered tyre warmers? All seem to be 7.2 or 12v? Bearing in mind most chargers are 12/240v these days, i wouldn't buy a power supply just to power tyre warmers. I guess you just use an old 7.2v and charge it up now and again - do they last a while?
I guess I should race more and think less.... |

this depends
Indoor, providing the temperature is normal room temperature of around 21 degrees - no need for warmers - you'll probably get grip roll.
For outdoor racing, with oil based additives, it is almost imperative. It works the additive into the tyre as much as have a warm tyre and insert. If you race indoors at maritime, warmers aren't a bad idea coz it tends to be quite cold there. |
