How do you access your email via POP3 / SMTP client or via IE / firefox etc?

I don't think they've hacked your account, more like spoofing your mail address

Agreed, more than likely to be a spoof. If your worried change your PW.

If you use outlook you can view the email header etc. which you can find the source address (IP / hostname)

Firewalls and spam / proxy servers is my new job but paid lots for it

Still do the other bits like AD, AV, exchange

I don't use hotmail, can you view the header info using hotmail?

No harm in changing you password and make sure it's complex I.e upper, lower numbers and !!

Is your AV software / firewall up to date on the client and have you also got a firewall on your router?

Do you keep the O/S updated?

AVG is crap invest in http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s....html?KAS-IS83

AVG get false positives and then miss real viruses.

Have you got the firewall enabled on the O/S and does your router have a firewall?

What has happened to you happened to me. I keep getting emails apparently from myself, odds on are that if you buy anything from ebay using paypal some B***tard has sold you email name to an advertising company. They dont have your password but use your email name.

So how are they able to send emails to eveyone in your address book then?

Same has happened to my wife, she uses Live Hotmail aswell. She has changed her password and the problem seems to have gone.

I would guess you clicked on something silly when you were using msn messenger so it raped all your contacts from that.

Jimmy, your not trying to suggest, that Microsoft has sneakily got you to sell your soul online... they wouldn't do that... would they!!!

Its quite easy to send an email and just put some one else's email as the return or sender.

I had it happen to me and I was getting emails from people replying to it!

Have you replied to any spam emails?

Replying to a spam email is bad as they can see your email is live.

I suggest you run a virus scan and make sure you have up to date virus definitions - Basically make sure the program runs the online update.

also look for Sophos Anti-Rootkit and run that.
