Default Registering cars from abroad

If i bought a car from outside the uk and brought it into the uk can i keep it on foreign plates for 6 months, also will gordon want VAT?

seems like a ball ache, i dont know how they can charge VAT when you have bought something outside of the UK

My next car will be bought for €1

I beleive, but not to sure, a new car is still VATable, but a used car isn't? Would need to read up on it.

The car is new to the UK, has a new (age related UK plate), therefore is a new regestration and vat is payable.
