I just ran my idler mod for the first time today and there's a couple of things I'd like to ask you good knowledgeable people!
1. It sounds like a bag of spanners, to the extent that most people said it sounded "rough as arseholes"! Is this normal and will it subside? As far as I know it's all meshed properly - not too loose and not too tight. The motor isn't getting excessively hot after 5 mins. 2. I'm running 23/78 with an Xcelorin (latest firmware etc.) on a RHD version. Sounded and run great without the idler mod (but that was on a different speedo too), so the gearbox conversion job I did should be fine, but it seems to lack punch and doesn't seem to run so freely. Top end isn't so bad. Any suggestions? 3. I occasionally get bizarre and odd behaviour from the Xcelorin. Today it went mental for no reason, from nothing to full power (nothing in between - like it was on a toggle switch!). Then it was fine again. Later on it stopped for a few seconds, like it lost power, but then carried on again. Could it be the capacitor or the personal transponder causing interference on the receiver - I've had this before? The PT is on top of the servo, so should be okay? Or some other external interference? Or maybe a faulty Xcelorin? Any ideas? It would be good to know where other people are mounting all their bits. Right now I have the capacitor on the left battery strap with a bit of velcro, and the PT is on the servo. Does anyone else have it like this? I might try moving the PT elsewhere and see if that helps too. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Are we any closer to an official AC shell to fit the CR2 yet ?

No idea mate....how's your idler mod running? Mine's noisy as hell.

Mine was better after 2 packs, after 4 packs as silent as a U-boat. Playing with the shims between idler and motor plate can make quite a difference in binding/noise!

When I emailed Jonathan a few days ago he said it had been shelved for the time being.

Are you running a cover at all? I hacked mine to fit over the mod...wondering if that is catching somewhere and if you had noticed the same. Mine is backed right of the plate, so it is flush with the spur.

Yes I'm using the motor cover, works perfect if you cut away enough material. Don't be afraid to cut a lot of it away, the body covers most of the parts that are open because of the mod, and a motor cover isn't the biggest purchase you'll do during the season.
I'm using 3 0,1mm shims between the bearing and motor, works perfect. |

I'm interested in another cr2, but not too confident in doing the mod myself. |

Or are you more central on the idler with the spur? Also, does your idler spin freely in your hand or is it a little tight (but not much)? Just wondering if mine is too loose and has some play in it on the bearings. Thanks.

Any news on the motor plate? I need a new shell and am just seeing if its worth going LHD instead of me RHD one.

Sorry, I forgot to answer your question. the idler is touching the spur about in the middle of its surface, around 40% starting from the inner side.
______________ motor plate [ 1 ]____² [ 1 ] Bad drawing, but 1 = idler, ² = spur, I hope you understand what I mean by 40%. And the idler spins freely, make sure it does! Quote:

If we manage to get some testing done, i would hope to have the motor plate / idler mod ready towards the end of Jan / early Feb. A couple of photos below of the carbon fibre motor plate along with the idler post. I have tested a 23t pinion upto a 29t and they fit fine on a 78t spur.
