Default Old ACOMS transmitter maintenance/repair

Hi all,

I use an old ACOMS Techniplus V transmitter. I tried to switch to a Futaba 3GR a while back, but I couldn't get used to the very light springs in comparison to the heavy ones on my ACOMS. Only problem is, I'm starting to have trouble centering the steering: if I push the steering all the way to left and return to center, the wheels still point left a bit. If I push it all the way to the right and return, they point right a bit.

I'm assuming this is the fault of my transmitter - the steering servo isn't super-new but it is competent and metal geared - a HiTec HS-925mg. Does anybody have any tips on how to fix this issue? Failing that, can anybody recommend me a stick transmitter with nice stiff springs?

To be honest It sounds like a servo problem not the Tx.

But If you do go for a newer stick Tx ,
you can usually split the Tx case apart and adjust the spring tension
on the sticks.

HTH.

Cheers for that, I've been planning to pick up a newer servo anyway, so I'll do that befre making any other changes

I expect you know mate, but check the actual servo saver if you haven't already. The b4 one can give too easily. I had to get the new high tension spring for mine or glue it up! Cammers had actually worn the plastic on his x6

Yeah, I put a new one in a short while ago, so it should be alright. I really ought to just glue it since the servo's nice and strong anyway...

Swap the servo onto the throttle channel. If it still doesn't centre its the servo, if it does then its the Potentiometer on the steering stick. Stevo had this problem at the Players and it turned out that the clip that held the 'Pot' had broken so it never centered properly.

Good call. I tested it that way, and had the same problem, so it must be the servo. On opening the car up and listening the servo is making some pretty gnarly noises too, so I have a new servo on the way
