Good to hear that without major changes the Tamiya did so well, I tried the Buggy Champ at one of qualifying heats at Ellesmere Port Winter Series and was pleasantly surprised. It was mostly standard apart from the Sport Tuned Motor (sloooow) and 3 racing shocks.
Since then I have decided to race it more often and have changed motor for a faster one and fitted Team Orion Trued Foams (same diameter as std wheels/tyres). Think I may have to give Round 5 a go, who cares if make a fool of myself.. pictured with my other halfs blaze. |

I must admit that Jimmy's Tamiya was my favourite car of the day. The incredible thing was that it made no sound, no sound at all! It would come past you and look so smooth and controlled but you couldn't hear it, freaky!

Just out of interest ... how much does a TamTech weigh ready to race???

With personal transponder, battery etc mine weighs a little under 710g, thats with touring car wheels (with Tamiya mini steel rear axles for front wheels to spin on, looking for lighter ones).
Incidentally I have just done this to lower shock mount and it makes a vast difference to how it feels, time will only tell how it handles. Last edited by jimmy; 06-11-2007 at 04:26 PM. |

nice one, I was talking on sunday of making a bracket to move the lower shock mount back a few mm - like you say it should make a big difference as it gets softer the more you compress right now! crazy. This looks even simpler - I assume there's no chance of it hitting the wheel?
I might try with my bracket idea and if it doesn't work try this way. Last edited by jimmy; 06-11-2007 at 04:44 PM. |

Hey Thomas,
Yes, I was there. Got 2nd place in the B-final Mod class. I ran my Mini Infero ST for a few qualifyers and then used my RC18B Exotek for the last qualifyer and final (for no reason other than I wanted to try both cars). The Atomic Carbon held up a treat but we think they are slightly over engineered and Jonathan is looking at making a slightly flatter version (say 3-4mm carbon). If you are interested in a pair please Jonathan or myself know. We have a few people who have been asking after these now so a production run might be nearing a possibility |

I bought a Tamtech Ferrari kit and in the kit was a set of adaptors for 12mm hexes so that was rear sorted. On front the bearing diameter is smaller on Buggy Champ than on other Tamtechs it uses 850 bearings so I used a Tamiya Mini rear axle with a spacer on inside, simple then to add a drive pin, hex and bolt up wheel. (just ordered an alu axle to reduce weight as the steel mini axle is heavy.)
In first photo I didnt have the mini axle fitted, tried something else bout couldnt get wheels centered properly. |
