Default 44.2 shock advice

Ok so im new to this building lark, and wanted some tips.

What do you use to clean shockoil from the shocks, will washing up liquid be ok, or should I really look at some mechanics spray ?

Next thing is when I built up the shocks I noticed 2 things

1. the bleed hole washer once covered in shock oil wanted to squeeze out when I tightened the screw ? any ideas

Also on the shocks themselves there is a small rubber o ring when that's also covered in shock oil it tends to bunch up.

And what do I use to tighten them does the kit come with anything or do I just do as tight as poss without marking the shafts ?

thanks

If you want to give the alloy parts a thorough clean use brake cleaner from your local halfords etc. make sure u remove all the plastics and rubbers though as it will perish em. Make sure you put all the rubber o rings in a little plastic bag and squirt a good blob of ae green slime in the bag. Rub the orings around in the slime. Then leave ten mins. This allows the slime to sink into the rubber. It causes the rubber to swell thus creating a better seal. You also now have a seal that is self lubricating. As for the small orings for the shock bleed screws. Throw them away. You get a better seal with nothing. Just nip the screw up well.
Hope this helps rob
If you need any more help. Just ask

Dont use brake cleaner for the shocks that just doesnt make sence. Brake cleaner cleans almost everything but not silicone. Use alcohol or silicone cleaner if you have to clean them. But NOT on the O rings. They will damaged with both.

+1 for brake cleaner. I also like to use WD40, I dont know if this is wise, but I like that it helps to protect the exterior metal parts from the elements too. Again dont use on any plastics/rubber, it makes em swell up.

steveproracing: I know maybe they dont have anything better when traveling but it but it doenst help. Brake cleaner is good for new parts like diff balls or rings and outdrives though. New parts are often covered with some (non silicone) oil.
You can do the test with some a old shock oil bottle and spray some brake cleaner in... it will just not mix. Than use some isopropyl and you will see that it mixes immediatly.

Danny Harrison: WD40 is great for anything that mustn't rust and reduces friction much better than any silicone oil (which is very good to prevent rust too) I dont use it much but there are not many situations where WD40 is wrong. Basicly WD40 is for cleaning.
