Touring car shell choice...... does it matter?
Hi all,
Just bought a touring car and I need to buy a shell for it. I'd like to buy something cool and spray it funky - seen a nice mk6 golf gti shell ?? However, a friend who has run touring cars said Im best to stick with something like a mazda 6, as apparently aerodynamics plays a massive part. Anyone know what shells are best to go for, and which are best avoided? ta |

Most race shells handle well, there are small differences between them. A Mazda 6 is a fairly common choice.
Scale shells don't handle as well which could prove frustrating if you are racing, especially something as tall and boxy as a Golf would be in comparison (Tamiya have made a couple of Golfs over the years if you really want one). |

They make a big difference. Even for my son who has only been racing for a small while can tell the difference.
I use a mazda speed 6. Mazda 6 (not speed 6) gives a neutral feel for the car if setup correctly. Ltcr has much more aggressive steering but less on the rear. Mount a shell more forward by 5mm + will also give more front and less rear. Try to be consistent when cutting your shells so you can understand the different handling characteristics. Below link is a good guide. http://demonpowerproducts.co.uk/faq.php#32 Bed time. |

If you are racing with it then yes a big difference between shells and handling but if just for fun then get what you like look of. The Mazda 6 is a good basic neutral feeling car so good to start with the Subaru and ltcr give a lot more steering so tend to make the rear a bit loose. There are web sites that list most tc shells and tell you the different characteristics of each one

hpi and protoform make the more popular race shells and they tend to give handling right ups on the each individual shell so just try there websites
