ESC Fan recommended?
Hi all,
Just wondered what peoples opinion was on using an esc fan- is it really required when running outdoor on Astro in England!, no more than 5-6 min races with a 20 min break between? Its a Dualsky XC870TF 150amp with a 6.5 motor. |

I think there are too many variables to give a definitive answer on this one (depends on track, wet or dry etc..).
Give it a run without the fan and check the temperatures at regular intervals. If it gets too hot then you'll have your answer. I ran a Turnigy 120a esc with 7.5t motor last Sunday with no fan and no problems. It was a wet track and bloody cold though! |

My 22 2.0 runs without a fan and hasnt overheated yet, main reason is that the fan doeant actually fit beneath the shell and I refuse to go for a bug ugly cab forward shell to get some more space. My 22-4 runs with fan and due to the increased weight and torque required I wouldnt leave it off. Back in the day you could exceed the turn limit of a speedo by 2 turns in 2wd, try it in 4wd and things got smoky!

What car is the most important question.
Without a fan I can get to thermal cut out in ~4 minutes in my 4wd, when the ambient temp is only 15 degrees or so, the fan keeps it down to 70 degrees. In the 2wd (same conditions, same track, same esc, no fan) I can run until the LVC and its still only 60 degrees |

I run an 870tf with a 6.5t in my yokomo 4wd and i dont use a fan, no need to as it gets nowhere near hot enough.
