I have a gas powered one for emergencies down at the track, I also just bought a 60w electric one from eBay and it was only £4.99 delivered !!! Works perfect on motors...

I bought one of these for use at home and find it excellent. Needs the larger tip for motors and speedo connections, then it works really well.

ive got one of the lrp soldering irons and its the best out there it heats up to 400c in under 5 seconds, it is a bit pricey but you will never need to buy another iron again it comes with to two tips the bigger ones perfect for doing motors and speedo wire and the small tip is great for doing servo wires.

Thumbs up 100w Soldering Iron

If you want a mains Iron this will do Motor Tags and ESC posts.

SEALEY Soldering Iron 100W/230V (e-bay)

Anything less than 60Watts tend to cool quickly if its a large joint or a metal tag.

For Field work Portasol Gas are great the kits include hot air as well as soldering tips

see CPC/Farnell Portasol Soldering Irons They have a free postal delivery on offer til the end of May

I bought one of these:

cheap as chips and does the job fine - motor wires are no problem
