Google Chrome - A real Firefox/IE competitor?
Well I'm sat here typing this on Google Chrome - which is Googles very own web browser.
To be honest, it looks like your average web browser with a cool interface. However it has some super cool stuff backend which make it super quick and generally very stable. I would suggest people check it out just for the fun. http://www.google.com/chrome There is actually a comic which explains the cool stuff behind it too: http://www.google.com/googlebooks/chrome/ May sound strange, but it's a surprisingly good read |

And it's designed to run Google's web-based apps. That bell you can hear is the one tolling for MS...

Chrome speeds up Javascript heavy apps like Google docs, Gmail and calendar massively with it's amazing built from scratch JRE.
It's not blue for me? I think it must match peoples desktop - so blue for XP systems maybe? Really looks at home on Vista. Not even a Google logo or title bar - which is nice. All you really get are tabs and lots of space for the webpage... which I suppose is the whole idea I really don't know where my loyalties lie now. I have used Firefox for 6 years, since long before it was even called Firefox. But I also very loyal to Google. Google have made some of the most outstanding stuff in internet history. On merit basis, even though it's in beta - Chrome wins! |

looks nice, does not seem to work as well as I would like.
I like to live in the dark ages on IE6 I get sick of extra gadgets and features... I like to type the address in the address bar, I don't want it to tell me what websites I should visit each time I load it up |

Cool things people may want to try.
Task Manager - Right click up the top to see a task manager. This shows you how much memory, CPU and bandwidth each tab (thus website) is taking up). Porn mode/Incognito - By clicking the button on top right then "new incognito window" or ctrl+shift+n you open up a new window where cookies and history are not stored. Google say this is great for buying a gift you want to keep secret... I can think of other uses. Drag & drop tabs - Drag a tab off window to create a new window, or even drag an individual tab over to a second monitor. I see this being useful when I'm watching something on iPlayer or YouTube and still want to browse. Application shortcuts - By clicking the button on the top right you can create application shortcuts. These basically run the link as an even more minimalistic window. Great for making web based email, web calendar, web based office programmes act like they are in fact integral and not web based. |

Chrome has spell check, one click bookmark, instant suggestions, and much more. Why would you need to add a Google Toolbar... the whole browser is Google. |
