B44.1 handling issue please help
I'm fearful of the old man chucking the hobby in because his car has become a handfull leaving us scratching our heads! An example is when driving down the main straight, if you back off the power on the bend the back end will just spin out 180 degrees on you very quickly. It's a similar story all around the track. I've tried all sorts of individual changes one at a time but nothing seems to shift the balance of over sensitive back end and steering. Is there anything wear and tear wise that could have led to this?

Excessive binding somewhere, check with wishbones up and down? Have you checked all bearings?

Seem daft but you haven't got the drag brake turned up too high

Thanks for the replies, I will double check the bearings and wishbones when I get in, the drag brake was set at 20% so we reduced it to 10% without notable difference. However I did question the esc (SP reventon pro) as it may well have happened when this was fitted. No one way fitted, could it be worth rebuilding the diffs? I also run a b44 and i can't say rough diffs have effected my car in this way?

Would have help you out if you at teesside car club ..
Need to check all 4 corner that not binding if u remove the drive shaft away from outdrive. what tyre you using at the minute ? yellow mini spike or mini pin I recommend using same tyre front and rear at same time when new in packet .. if using rear worn tyre and new tyre on front which will causing issue such as spin out on corner. lesson learned in past |

Make sure you have the latest firmware installed. Lots of oddness with some of the early ones.
And tbh, I run 5% drag at most. 20% is masses! |

Thanks guys, running yellow full spikes as per norm for our polished wood floor track, always run evenly ran tyres. Took out drive shafts and no binding at wheels.
I believe it has the modified software installed which runs great on another guys car but I don't think I can select 5% drag as it rises in 10% incriments

You might need the upgraded (?) program card or bluetooth, I can do mine in single units iirc

Just another thought... It has small bore shocks with the big bore spring adapters. What rate springs should we have to match the standard green rear / silver front small bores? It currently has white rear / green front big bore springs. I checked a chart and I think black rear and red front big bore are what we want? The more I think about it the more I'm wondering if this has been the underlying problem as with no spare springs we have never adjusted this

My sons B44.1 did this once and it turned out to be a broken pin in the front prop shaft. It still had enough friction to turn the front wheels off the ground but when driving it was a rear wheel drive. Worth checking.
I prefer 4WD with no drag brake as it makes for a smoother transition into a corner at least for me. I don't think it would be just spring weight causing such a dramatic imbalance but a Green BB front is pretty soft. I usually run a Losi Blue or Black, similar to a AE BB Purple. I also run a stiff front anti roll bar. |

Just to add, I have removed his complete shocks and switched them with mine so this should totally rule the suspension out if nothing drastic changes. However I measured the length of each and found his fronts were 4mm longer than mine? Not sure if this will make any difference?

Id be running the yellow front spring and black rear on your sports hall. Blue front may be even better.

Have you lifted the suspension all the way and rotated the wheels? Could be the driveshaft catching on the outdrive if it's snapping so drastically.

Cheers Danny, I looked into the spring charts and also found black rear was good match for standard green but found BB red front was closest to standard bore silver, I'll look into the colours you suggest!

Ok pretty sure the spring rate is at the heart of the problem, my shocks on his car transformed the handling rendering my car a right handful last night! Ordered a selection of springs so will hopefully nail it!

How convenient you posted this topic!
I race my B44.1 on an indoor carpet track. We race on Ozite carpet using Slicks (usually Barcodes / Smoothies / Typos etc) and SXT Traction compound. I was using a set of swapped BB (but sold them with my last 2wd buggy, so I will be returning to the SB body with BB spring conversion.) I am looking for a good setup for springs with the conversion. You know, before we had the Std. BB bodies! My car was suffering from the same handling issues, where it would wash going into a corner. I don't run any drag brake and I too run the SP Rev. Pro 1.1 with a 6.5 motor. On my BB setup, I think I was using Blue Front and either Green or White rear. our track setups change regularly and the jumps are usually moderate and most of the larger jumps can be back-sided and the amount of Flat landings in minimal. So here are my questions for those folks still using the older 44.1/44.2 -With the change in SB volume vs BB volume, how much that changes the buggy? -Changing to Gear Diffs F and R, and having the std Slipper, how will that change the handling? -IS the Gear Diff necessary? or adapting the Triad Slipper? -Would adding a Spool F or R make a difference? what about 1way? I'm exploring some options as an alternate to upgrading to the 44.3 . (If anything I may switch to Yokomo, since I have an MR and looking at the YZ2) but given I have the car, I want to maximize the performance for the Carpet.
