Default Returned 'For Sale' item due to fault.

Just had a motor returned that I sold in good faith in known working condition. I asked the buyer for pictures from his end to see if it was in a different condition to that sent and it looked fine in his pictures so had the motor returned to me so I could check it out. Although I ran it up first on a motor checker I didn't take a video before posting. I have now done a video once I received the motor back and it's working fine. Just need to sort out with the buyer to return the motor to him and not issue a refund as he requested.

So in all the electric items I sell I will post a video to show items working and therefore added the following text to the electric items I have for sale now and in the future.

Quote:
All electrical items will be shown to be working via a video before posting.
Therefore no refunds will be issued once it has been dispatched
Do you think that's fair?

Here's one I uploaded on 3rd Dec 2014 testing a receiver before selling.

Default good idea

thats a good idea, when i sell any of my camera lenses on fleebay i always video them working ( takes a minute to do on an iphone ) also take some test pics and display them. not only does it help cover your back but it also encourages sales and people can see how open and above board you are as a seller.

totally fair, I bought brand new genuine CDI unit from Kawasaki for one of my bikes, £380.

waited weeks, plugged it in and was dead.

no come back whatsoever, I tried all sorts, but they maintained that as it was an electrical item for the ignition then as soon as I plugged it in I was no longer able to refund as my bike may have blown it

all this despite me sending them video of the bike running fine with a borrowed CDI.

so if its good enough for them, then fine for toy car bits

I do often wonder if returned stuff is just people trying it on after maybe mistakenly buying something or later finder one cheaper

In this case maybe and or it's to fast, geared wrongly, incorrect timing for gearing etc. They have a full refund now as I couldn't be arsed messing about and arguing the toss.

I think it'd be good for yourself to do to cover your sales. I do however not expect everyone to do it.. as some do not have the know how to pop a picture up, nevermind a video!!

Progress eh?!! We have all these selling sites available so we can buy and sell from our armchairs, yet it is now more difficult to make a straight sale than it has ever been.

In the good old days you advertised something with a 'phone number, someone came round to look at it (or you met up at a race) and the deal was done with cash to cheque exchanged.

Now I have to make a video or take a photo/s, check everyone out, arse about with some form of payment, hope to God that the guy on the other end doesn't scam me and then go through hell on earth if they do.

Oople is at least somewhere you can ask others about potential buyers and sellers, but a well-placed ad at a race meeting is still me preferred means of selling. We should all do that a bit more.
