Default Spur gear

Think I need a new spur gear on my B44 since the mesh keeps slipping even though I've messed around with it umpteen times, using the piece of paper trick etc. It looks like all the teeth have just suddenly worn down too much, could there be a specific reason for this? It's lasted me around 3-4 hours of use.

Has everyone else just bought the associated one again? I've seen this RW Racing one on MK Racing, does anyone know if they are any better? (They cost more)

Thanks guys.

I use one made by RW in my x6...much nicer than the moulded associated ones...it's actually concentric for starters, and the slipper pads are a great snug fit, so it's much easier to assemble.

It's not worn down any differently that I have noticed, so looks great to me...and might have to invest in one myself as my kit spur took a beating the last time I ran my B44 after the motor moved.

Devastator, the only reasons I see for your spur teeth stripping like that are 1- Inproper mesh adjustment or 2- some debris that got in there and ruined the teeth. but the most probable cause is 1 usually... And any spur gear will do this if improperly set. Once set (whatever the method you use, paper, etc...), you have to make sure the motor and pinion are nicely clamped down (won't move). You should have a very slight bit of loose in the mesh without any binding! The less play the better (but remember no binding!) Also important, is check the mesh all round the spur gear! Sometimes they aren't perfectly round so if you set the mesh at the closest spot, when the spur turns, on the other side mesh is incorrect. You just need to check this quickly; it's easy.

Hope this helps!

I've been using the RW Racing spurs in both B44 and X6 for 6 months now and I must say I'm very impressed. Much harder wearing and, as stated previously, more concentric and easier to fit because the slipper pads just snap into place. Well worth the extra.

when I was a young 'un I was terrible at getting the mesh right and mashed loads of spurs hehe. now I just set the mesh so there's a tiny bit of rock between the teeth and never have a problem with eating spurs now. The grub screw isn't catching the spur at all is it?

The mesh was perfect and then suddenly mid race I was losing drive due to the pinion just spinning against the spur when I tried to get the power down and not meshing quite enough. I readjusted it making sure it was good all the way around like you said as well but it's just like the teeth haven't got quite enough on them tbh.

Will order an RW one then since they seem pretty popular

Cheers guys.

Dev, motor screws can and will come loose on occasion and this can cause your mesh to become loose eating up your gears. Just another possibility....

I remember screws being fully tightened when I went to readjust the mesh, however I'm thinking now that the lap before I took a pretty heavy knock and it must have just knocked it out slightly, eaten my gears for a lap like you say then I was done for

Got new parts on the way so should be all good

+1

Bad gearmesh = can chew up a spur in a single run
Proper gearmesh = spur gear can all but last indefinately

Yup that can definetly happen! A buddy's B44 does this regularly and he ends up stripping his spurs... Me... I've never stripped one... But I expect it could happen some day...

Cheers!
